Kicking myself I passed on getting the 5oz:

 

Listing says international shipping $25.

Prices for 1oz silver medal are all over the place.

 

My eBay phone app sucks ... only show shipping to US only

But yes you are right the 1oz medal price is everywhere. 5oz with much more limited mintage is going to be more stable price-wise.

 

The seller doesn't tick the "worldwide shipping" but does offer international shipping.

Anyway this seller has few more for sale at $199 each.

 

You can buy 1oz medal for 190+shipping right now. That $650 buyer paid through the nose - probably a discrete event.

Even with 190+10 = 200 shipped, which PA sold for 175 a pop - the profit is marginal.

 

Seller is at loss selling for $200 shipped after ebay fees, paypal fees, time taken to photography, list, pack and post.

 

Maybe the seller got a wholesale discount price from PA...but still minimal profits. 5oz seems like a much better buy in retrospect as it is going solid > $600.

who knows................ that e bay seller is a pretty reputable panda guy............no idea why he is out there below cost ,he has it listed like it is the only one he has,he has not sold any.............................I doubt PA sold him at wholesale.... why create your own competition.beats me ,not a large volume of coins for sale ,the cheap guys selling for whatever reason will go away

 

The same guy also has the 1/2 oz gold medal for sale at 1998 - when PA price is 1995. This is really puzzling. The only reasonable explanation is probably PA sold these resellers at much lower price than retail customer like me. Otherwise - I dunno :-/

Take any comparison point, for example, 1987 San Francisco Int'l Coin Expo - Panda 1 oz Gold Medal, with 1500 mintage has current fair market value of 2950. Compare this with the current offering, which has 2500 mintage, and 1/2 oz, but priced at 1995. So, an old coin, with double the gold amount, 60% of current mintage, commanding less price than a hot off the press coin - which is still selling at issue price.

Something has to give - either current 1/2 oz coin price will crash, or market will lift old ones price. Either way, the current one is probably a bad purchase. For that money, someone can purchase any of these old ones, and come out way ahead:

Totally as an aside, I have a 1987 San Francisco, and it's awesome.

 

Ok will skip buying the 1/2oz... might pick up one of the other ones if I can find them.
