something like this will continue, full steam ahead

If the US completely pulled out of Afghanistan and were replaced by Pakistani peace keepers, the regions minerals would be a great asset to the Chinese economy.

its the same as the border wall, if Trump build it, the next president would knock it down even before Trump left the white house premises by helicopter
just like Najib knocked down the big eagle

Why is it the usual in-house US haters never mention that China has had unfair tariffs (and stealing company technology policies) in place against the US (and other nations) for years before Trump came into power? Trump fights back and everyone pees their pants and cries.

Trump has said let's both (China and US) get rid of all tariffs. China doesn't want to give up its advantages.

With brexit in Europe and this trade war, companies are learning the value of diversified supply chains. Manufacturing is shifting from China to Thailand and other Asian states. Larger companies in Europe are moving from the UK to Germany and elsewhere. Global markets will be permanently better off once the dust settles to the loss of the West. We are witnessing the end of hegemonic empires and the return of sovereign states in regional alliances. China will not fare as badly as expected, they have already established the ground work in Africa and other emerging economies to survive.

India will be a big winner from this, although they are embroiling themselves in unnecessary conflict with Pakistan by revoking Kashmiri independence.

What this means for Australia is yet to be seen, but I don't see us removing ourselves from the Western sphere anytime soon.

It has been a long time since Japan destroyed both the Russian Pacific and Baltic fleet in a single battle and imperial Japan engaged a multi-front war against China, the European colonial powers, India and the USA all at the same time.

Yes, this was at a time when Japan was still a relatively backward and poor country then...

Nobody can predict the future.

But as far as the present is concerned, The US has been plunging towards third world standards while China is not a poor country anymore.

My guess is that the next financial reset will make that clear for everybody.

At the end of the day, it boils down to the following:

Enough Jobs?
Enough Food?
Enough Cheap Oil?
Enough Housing?

China and the US are in a war. So far it is China that has started the killing of Americans with the weapon being industrial level production by Chinese Communist Party labs of synthetic opioids being shipped into the US via Mexico by the metric ton. It is warfare via poison. So far it's China doing the actual killing, America retaliating by attacking the Chinese economy and manufacturing base. It will eventually escalate into a hot war, that's inevitable. If the Chinese Communist Party creates another Tiananmen Square scenario and takes over Hong Kong the The message to Taiwan is "You're next Sunshine" and Taiwan will go on a war footing and I suspect that this will be the flashpoint.

It will be interesting to see air and naval battles between Chinese captains and pilots and admirals who have never fought in a hot war versus American officers who know how to kill and who are not flummoxed by the inevitable chaos that arrives at the beginning of a battle. The American officer class know how to fight and to kill and they have a strong tradition of taking out little islands in the Pacific.

Hot war is the worst case scenario and which is what Trump is trying to avoid. If Trump wins a second term, what will happen is the US military will withdraw from East Asia and the Japanese navy will fill in the void within 10 year. The Japanese will not be so kind as the Americans.

Perhaps so. Japan has teeth, if China attacks them China will no doubt get a nasty surprise.

Any hot war will escalate into nuclear war. Then kiss your arse good-bye.
This is why trump is so dangerous.

I’m not going to say that I understand the Japanese but my observations is that have the “predator” mentality (the predator in the movie alien vs predator), very different from the culture of the rest of the world. Japanese people think differently from the rest of the world. They don’t fear nukes, they have been nuked thrice, most recent is fukushima and yet they still want to use nuclear energy... The nuclear deterrent don’t work for Japan.

With US economic power in decline. I don’t see how America can continue to rein in the Predator nature of Japan.

Opioid use in the USA is part of the internal rot that will not disappear. The Chinese know all about this when the British Empire maintained the opium trade through Hong Kong. There are no guiltless parties here.

War mongering and talk of hot wars between these nations will ensure our future generations will suffer greatly if they are able to live. For the sake of the future create a different direction. There will be no winners is any large conflicts. Citizens of the US and China have all the power necessary if they are willing to cooperate. Blaming and victim mentality can’t deliver good outcomes. They are by their very nature self destructive and self fulfilling.

It won't be long until Japan won't be able to go to war, there won't be enough people there of military age. They will have to send Godzilla.

the next war featuring South Korea, North Korea or Japan as belligerents, none would require many soldiers
if these countries thought war was eminent, the only “winnable scenario” as a belligerents would be a massive first nuclear strike.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Japan and SK could make dozens of warheads in days for a first strike.

Also future wars won’t be fought with people. Autonomous soldiers are being tested now. AI wars are close at hand. Nuclear batteries will soon explode in production to run these devices. Draconian and authoritarian leaderships will use drones to control people. You have seen it all on the movies. Get ready to experience it first hand.

I bet you 1 round 50c piece that won't happen.
