Someone may not like this fact but animals are the most popular theme on silver collector and bullion coins today I'm convinced.
I've read over the past few months here in this forum a couple of members express how they are tired of an animal (fictional or real) being depicted on a coin or animal theme coins and therefore they claim to look to buy some other coins which have no animal motif or design element. Now of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for everyone else who either doesn't mind an animal depicted on a coin or for those who actually seek out certain animals or animal themes, you are in very good company with the rest of the world who seems to not be able to be satiated with animals depicted on their silver coins of choice. What that means to me is that if you are buying in the hopes to some day turn around and sell your silver coins to capture a higher premium due to the collectibility / popularity of the coin, buying coins today with an animal theme is a very smart bet in my view.
Just for a moment, think about the list of popular silver coins or silver coins series today and how many depict animals:
Lunar series coins from any nation
Pandas
Koalas
Kookaburras
Kangaroo
Canadian Wildlife - Bison
Fiji Taku
American Eagle
African Wildlife - Somalia Elephant
Mythical Creatures
etc, etc, etc, etc
From the earliest cave paintings to some of the most spectacular high relief silver coins today (think - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoEi8t3PTto ), animals have remained an extremely popular theme with the vast majority of people....and that won't change.
Look for some good deals on Lunar Snakes as next year's Horses start becoming available from different mints and some dealers want to clear out inventory to make way.
