I'm a bit confused. For the 5 oz, I see that it shows 600 limited issue, and then 1350 for limit. Which is it?

Maximum mintage 1,350.
750 of them being issued as "First Strike" and sold to some special dealers,
remaining 600 coins sold by Royal Mint directly to their customers.

The ones on Royal Mint website are from the 600 coins.

Thanks yrh, appreicate the quick response. So is APMEX lying, or are these not the 'premium 600?' You know how some dealers are. LOL.

Five ounces of .999 fine silver are contained in this mighty Five-Ounce coin finished to Proof standard. A Certificate of Authenticity confirms that only 600** coins will be released in this presentation. Only the second year for this beauty!
In 2013, the Britannia was minted in even finer precious metals, including the purest .999 fine silver. This year's 2014 Silver Britannia coin features a British Icon, a British artist, a design approved by the Queen and perfected by the UKs best craftspeople and struck by The Royal Mint. Britannia has always reflected Britain's position, strengths and aspirations. She has been reimagined over time and has earned her reputation as the changing face of Britain. So closely tied with the coinage is Britannia that she is protected by law only coins struck by The Royal Mint are genuine Britannia coins. - See more at: http://www.apmex.com/product/84799/...lief-britannia-w-box-coa#sthash.AcnryMcH.dpuf

Funny they put "600**" but there was no reference to ** anywhere on their sales page.
Anyway based on the photos on APMEX those are definitely from the 600 coins.

got it. thanks for your time. This means they're not as 'special' as the 750 special strikes, correct? :-) 699.00 is a whopping price. wowza, but man, those are nice!!

I was almost at the point of pulling the trigger, and I just couldn't do it. To think I can get a 32.15 ounce coin for a lower price than this, how does one justify it. I just couldn't. Looks like another 10 kilo order is in the cards. :D

depends on how you look at it. Perth Mint also sends their earlier batches to certain dealers for "First of XXX Struck" designations from NGC.
Are these really specially coins? From eBay completed listings a PF70 fetch the same price whether it is a PF70 First Struck or PF70 regular.

if you want one of the 750 first strucks, eBay has 2 active listings right now... going for USD1,650 :D
I think you can also buy from Govmint @ USD999... not sure if they still have stock.

It is 600 limited "in this presentation" (with box & COA).
600 coins are in box with COA, the other 750 are coins only.

The 750 first struck copies come with different COA, and the presentation box is likely from 3rd party and not from Royal Mint.

Have to say, that is probably THE prettiest coin I have ever seen.

Although I like the 2014 proof Britannia design over-all, I have a few pet peeves...

1) Slouching posture.
2) Hair suggests wind from behind and yet lower part of gown suggests otherwise.
3) Weird/unusual way the left hand is holding the trident.
4) Most of the back side of the shield is visible but shows no details of the shield hand grip and fore arm support (how is she even holding it up?).
5) Large bottom behind is disproportionate to small top front (took a queue from Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls song?)
6) Pensive expression/stance (almost timid) instead of the more common proud/determined Britannia renditions.

Artistic license? :)

1. Her shield is too heavy. Her arm is tired.
2. Modeled from a actual lady with a fan blowing directly on her head with her gown pinned down.
3. Trident stuck on the ground, she's not holding it merely just touching it.
4. In year 2014 shields are now magnetically clip on her wrist via a wristband, or maybe licensed from Apple's MagSafe adapter.
5. She has heavy bottom.
6. Repeat of #1... She's tired after posing to the designer for the whole day.

HAHAHAHAHA!!

So trozau, you gonna get the 5 oz gold Britannia on Monday? I heard that for an additional $14,000, you can get custom alterations to the design to suite your tastes. :)

Meh! Too rich for my blood. Maybe years from now on the secondary market. ;)

edited to add: Even the 5 oz silver Britannia is too rich for my blood. :(

Received my replacement 5 oz coin. It is just as bad as the one I sent back. I can say with certainty that the mint has not re-struck new coins for replacement. They just took another coin which was sent back and gave it to me. They are just playing switcherooo. Shame on the Royal Mint on two counts : 1. for making and selling sub-standard coins and 2. for playing tricks on its customers.

Wow, how bad is bad this time?

Sorry to hear that jazzy. Clearly, their QC is not up to par with most customers QC because if these are in fact returns that would mean they passed the RM QC at least a second time.
