New 2014 Proof Britannia is an absolute beauty

I just noticed the 1 ounce proof is no longer available now:

Thanks for putting more salt in my wounds... :/ :D
Did you manage to obtain one?

No, not yet. Would be nice to find some seller in EU as don't want to pay more due to custom fees and taxes. :/

I am seeing some 'Pippa Middleton at the Royal Wedding' influences in the design there, well I guess you have to give the public what it really wants.

I look forward to the 2015 "Two Naked Britannias Wrestling in Mud' design.

Heh, that was my first thought as well. :)

got 1pc each, for the 5oz and 1oz proof Britannia. Planned to get more of the 5oz but Royal Mint cannot ensure that the coins in their inventory are from the earlier batch so I decided not to take the risk.

probably should have bought more and replace the defective ones, there is nothing to lose since the mint reimburse all return charges.

Some Korean seller sold one for 750$ and there was maybe one sold for 800$.
2700$ is way too much. For that kind of money you would get golden Norfed or kilo Chinese medal or maybe even 2 graded Britannias.:)

5 months have passed, and I still admire the 2014 proof Britannias... nicest coin in 2014! :)

Particularly the 5 oz version since in the 1 oz version, the globe and the lion and Britannia are not distinguishable as completely separate. With the 5 oz version, they have different finishes and the separation is very easily distinguishable.

Though the 1 oz coin is a nice coin, my vote for best looking repeating theme coin is specifically for the 5 oz version, not the 1 oz.

2013 Graded proof Britannia coins have very wide-spread multi-milky-spots problem. I personally bought 6 from a dealer, PF69, 4 of them have bad milky spot issue, I returned them. And many sold on Ebay also showing spots in the picture. The price of these graded coins were about 30% cheaper at the dealer than from Royal mint.

So I would suspect their 2014 coins will have similar issue.

And I doubt the spots were there when they grading it. Most likely, those spots appeared AFTER the grading case was sealed.

^^
Yep. What a crying shame. I have to say, I'd probably cast my vote as the nicest, prettiest coin in 2014. I mean that sleek body next to the lion does it for me. But if there are milk spots...yikes!!! Man, these mints really need to figure this spotting issue out! It will kill off the collectors. Quite frankly it was this fear that drove me not to purchase this issue. They've been notorious for spotting issues. Sucks. Maybe they should have applied the same technology to these coins to hide the spotting issue as they did for the bullion series!!

I think like everyone else who buys silver semi-numi or collector coins, I am still uncertain if there's anything buyers can do after purchase to retard the development of or prevent altogether spots from developing to a point where they are visible to the naked eye.

I've gotten into the habit with silver collector coins that as soon as possible after I receive and examine them to seal them in double plastic bags with as much air pressed out as possible. Any silver blobs or common bullion coins I buy do not get this treatment since their value is not dependent upon their surface integrity and condition...only their weight and purity. Then the coins go to my safe deposit box as soon as possible after that where they will likely sit for years.

My hope of course is, that when the time comes that I feel I need to sell my collector coins, that when I open up the protective bags, that the coins will be no worse off than when I sealed them in there.

Has anyone here in the forum who is reading this thread had any experience with sealing soon after receiving year 2000 or later silver coins that you've inspected before sealing and storing away (and found no visible milk spots prior to sealing) and years later opening the sealed bags and re-inspecting the silver coins?

Blobs are so much easier to deal with.

The most recent sales of these 5 oz silver beauties appears to be on the rise. This is the latest sale that I can find: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-5oz-UK...3532892?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item27f58f495c

December 2014 sales prices were already over $1000.

Clearly a winning 2014 silver collector coin.

People are asking those prices, but are there any actual sales at prices above $1k? And what about the 1oz coin? Listings seem quite sparse.

Are there any other sites besides eBay that would have a reasonable amount of listings?
