Thought it was time to have some definitive nomenclature for all of the Perth Mint 10oz bar collectors out there.

A - Flat bar, incused "THE PERTH MINT AUSTRALIA", "FINE 999", wide OZS, exact weight, serial on back
B - Flat bar, incused "THE PERTH MINT AUSTRALIA", "FINE 999", narrow OZS, exact weight, serial on back
C - Flat bar, recessed relief "THE PERTH MINT", "FINE 999", 10ozs, serial on back
D1 - Horizontal loaf bar, incused "THE PERTH MINT", 999, 10ozs, serial on back
D2 - Horizontal loaf bar, incused "THE PERTH MINT", 999, 10ozs, no serial
E - Vertical loaf bar, large logo, 999, 10ozs, no serial
F - Vertical loaf bar, small logo, 999, 10ozs, no serial
G - Vertical loaf bar, new logo, 999, 10ozs, no serial
H - Flat bar, centered Western Australia logo, "FINE 999", wide OZS, exact weight, serial on back (oldest known style)

Feel free to refer to "Type A", "Type B" etc in sales posts. Will do another post for other size bars when I get sufficient images.

This is a great post boss! I've been looking for ages. Any idea when they were minted, and estimate "mintage"?

No idea - however I had some Type As that were with an invoice circa 1980.

    I have the following serials:

    Type A - 852
Type B - 7401, 7890 (I know someone with consecutives in this range)
    Type C - A2848

Type D onwards did not have serial numbers.

If anyone has any other examples not shown, email me a decent quality picture. Also wouldn't mind tracking max/min weights on Types A and B - as far as I know both had underweight and overweight stamped examples. I would imagine an exact weight 10.00 is scarce, I've never seen one.

Had a report of a Type D held by a member here on Silver Stackers with a serial number - could be another variety. The example I have has no serial number. The bar's owner isn't sure if it's an original or aftermarket serial number.

For now I've added it as a variety - D1 with serial, D2 without serial.

It's also the type I've seen the least examples of.

Nice post! I have some photos of some different types of PM 100oz's (taken before they were lost in that freak helicopter accident...) let me know if you need some...

Great post, even for us from EU who rarely see PM bars.

I've only been able to get my hands on this Cook Island Coin/Bar, which is made by PM.

They make them especially for Germany ,as it's judged "a coin " because it has face value
And no VAT on them , same bar with no face value would attract VAT ;)

There is VAT on them, but it's not 19% but lower 7% VAT (since this is a 'coin').

Just a note on these types - the order I've labelled them is by no means definitive in terms of the order of release - I'm not sure which bars predate which in those pics.

I may be misremembering but I seem to recall someone posted a picture of an old Perth Mint bar that had the word "silver" on it (may be a bigger bar of course).

After searching through the old pics I think I was mis-remembering. Probably a kilo bar rather than a 10oz like this one:

What's the biggest difference between a serialized bar and one that isn't serialized?
