Scroll up to # 136 ...the heraldry side has 1700 as clear as the nose on your face...it is a somewhat conflicted medal.

However ,the toning is superb :)

My photos ,don't do this one justice ,but the toning is fairly even both sides.

    1957 100 yen.
Unusual find with luster and a nice gold tone. Two die polish lines connect the head and wing.

It saddens me whenever I come across an obviously-dipped cool old coin. :(

Anyway, loving the photos. Keep 'em coming!

I hear you on the dipped coins...fairly sure a couple of mine have been to the coin doctor's, however ,if you can separate the toning process(be it natural or doctored) from the object and just enjoy the results, then toned silver becomes a bit "arty".

As I have said before, toning helps to define the images and (in some cases) create depth .

I would not dip or doctor a coin ,but have experimented with some pre-decimal shillings in an envelope with copper coins....left them on the dashboard of my car for two years...epic fale :)

And my attempts with a coin in a spud in the oven were a waste of a good potato :D

Thanks, one of my favorites. (Though I also have a lot of favorites!)

Germany definitely knew their stuff a century ago.

As for any scratches, the major TPG says no cleaning occurred.

My eye isn't yet trained enough to disagree, so I defer to them.

    Graded low/mid MS 60's.

One of the nicest coins ever made IMO.. Its a lovely coin regardless of a light clean or not.

I don't believe it was cleaned.

The photo's lighting doesn't show the whole effect. In person there's more crimson/copper toning in certain lighting/angles.

And some of the scratches might just be the slab.

The reverse is fairly typical re: how it tones, found in many examples out there.

I really like those German coins from that era. Lots of nice specimens.
