Don't clean your silver .If you have a dodgy green one ,or tanned lovely ..post a pic here and see what can be offered. You may even get a BIG premium ,if she is a looker Starting this off with a tidy 1967 Canadian Goose dollar.Turqoise toning is the holy grail in toned silver .C'mon ,guys and girls ..bring out your dirty ones!
They toned into gold color ?! hehe how fitting for a silver coin ! its like with children, you never know how they are gonna turn out when they grow up ! this coin below was owned by me more than 12 months ago and it was sold on eBay to an aussie buyer ( before SS ) in QLD from memory - somewhere up north. when i sold it, i bought the same coin from a seller in Germany for a bit less - now in examples above, id always go for the CLEAR coin, but some coins tone graciously and develop the most unbelievable hues and scents of color which make the coin even more unique. this coin below is also an example of a well toned coin ( this coin actually has 2 things going for it and it sold on eBay for 10 times the premium on another regular coin of same type ) its mint is in Kosova ( rather than Constantinople ) and it is also a toner ( and a good one - at least 5.5 out of 7 on thucy's tone beauty scale ) i have a 2 Corona toned coin, that id love to photograph professionally - like TomD does in the US and posts his pro fotos but i cant find the image in my folders
a toned 1990 Kook that was housed in a velvety PM coin box 30+ magnification of the surface - done by me a graded toned coin - this one is 7 out of 7 - this eludes even opals
Awesome guys! Thanks for all the high quality pics. Hope we can continue to post these fantastic individualized coins and rounds. I am a tad too busy with work ,right now but will try to get all my toners up for a look. Keep them coming
another little toner in my possession KM# 3.2 1 Markkaa Finland 5.1828 g 0.8680 Silver 0.1446 oz asw 1907 350 k mintage 1908 153 k mintage 1915 1212 k mintage Interesting how the Finns ( linguistically related to Estonians & Hungarians ) spell it as MARKKAA double K followed by a double A - gotta love the Finns ! also interesting purity of the coin 0.8680 - havent come across the same in Euro early 20th Cent silver circulating coinage - and the weight is 0.1446 oz where the most silver coins of same denominational level was 0.1342 oz ( 7.74% higher !?) also note - the strong Russian presence in the design of the coin anyways photos of the coin below
Excellent shots. Hey Thucy - what is it with the double headed eagle on these european coins from different countries? They are pretty similar so it's kinda like if NZ minted koala coins. Does the pattern represent an historical moment?
Yes ,indeed, the Markka is superb and your photos do it justice. Thanks for the History/Linguistic lesson too ,man Always a story to tell with each coin
Hello Sorry i took this long to respond Basically not 100% sure why many governments of the world use the Eagle or the Double Headed Eagle on their crest. But what i do know is that the Eagle is the strongest animal in the air and looks at all the other animals from Above. Some countries that do have an eagle on their crest or coat of arms are Germany USA Russia Poland Albania Serbia . . .
"The eagle symbolized strength, courage, farsightedness and immortality. It is considered to be the king of the air and the messenger of the highest Gods. Mythologically, it is connected by the Greeks with the God Zeus, by the Romans with Jupiter, by the Germanic tribes with Odin, by the Judeo-Christian scriptures with God, and in Christian art with Saint John the Evangelist."
