Why are quarter eagles so expensive?

Seriously, the premiums on most pre 33 gold are around 50 dollars a coin. Why the hell are quarter eagles well over 100 bucks over spot?

4*2.5 is supposed to be 1 ounce, but does not measure up to $20 gold eagle 1 ounce
or the $50 gold eagle 1 ounce

or
due to the constitutionality of that gold as legal tender issued prior

No, an Eagle was the 10 dollar unit, and a quarter eagle was 2.50 dollars, so it would tae 8*2.50 to equal one ounce.

And the Constitutionality doesn't explain why 10 dollar, 5 dollar, and 20 dollar pre 33 coins all have about the same premium.

Fractional pieces will always cost more. They are often in demand too, mainly because more folks can afford them, they're cool, and they make great gifts, pieces for jewelry, etc.
