When dollar collapses

I have no way of knowing or sensing such a thing.

It was just a vague thing in NO that may well have been quiet unjustified, same with SF, but in NYC we found ourselves in a bar in 'Little Italy' not far from The Bowery where our hotel was. - NEVER AGAIN!. I sat on a bar stool at the end of the bar, and was promptly told by the barmaid that it was "taken'.

A few minutes later a well dressed man came in and the atmosphere changed in a moment. The drinkers moved a step or two away and he sat on 'his ' stool. The barmaids fussed over him as if he was Cary Grant which he was most certainly not!. Short and overweight, but his manner was VERY menacing!

One bunch was a group from a TV show called 'The Sopranos" which I have never seen or even heard of I think. They knew this bloke, and kept well away.

An interesting night!

I could and would kill in self-defense but never harm someone for no reason. I own around 100 firearms ( I'm a collector) and have carried a concealed handgun ( legal permit) for over 30 years. Whyon earth would YOU shoot ssomeone just because you own a gun?

The people responsible for these would of probably thought the same thing :P

Number of Murders by Firearms, US, 2009: 9,146
Number of Murders by Firearms, US, 2010: 11,078
Number of Murders by Firearms, US, 2011: 11,101

I bet most of these would not of happened if guns were not so easily accessible in your country. To be able to walk down a public street with a concealed automatic hand gun legally just by paying a fee is atrocious.
If you remove the descendants of slaves from these figures - we are one of the most peaceful countries in the world. -bw

Here you can kill someone in the capitals metro while stealing his mp3player, some months later you can go watch football accompanied by some state-employed 'guard' (he looked more like a butler tho).
Here you can break into 50 houses, treaten people, shoot around, kill a young woman cop, and during the entirety of this story, be arrested and released 10 times.
Here, as an illegal, you can be arrested and released 25 times, with the cops knowing you, saying oh it's you again.
Here, you can be haunted by 150 cops and a couple choppers, for an entire night, to be released next days evening.
Here, State heavily subsidizes local arts, movies, whatever 'eco', and buys 'crazy' (you know what I mean, it's 'special', and 'ugly', ornaments, to put in public places. Yet, prisons so called lack the money to replace old cell locks that prisoners are able to open, and even lack money (dito in army) to buy toilet paper.
This all has something in common: others, forced to do so, pay the associated bills.
Crap State, and my silver is one of the middlefingers I show them.
And yet, the murder rate in Belgium is 1.8 per 100,000 people, and in USA it's 4.8. I know where I would rather live...

I always dreamed of visiting Australia, in particular the "Outback", unrefined gems for the picking, as it were.

That was before I saw the pictures of the "scrap-heaps" of confiscated firearms.

And tonight I keep reading: "This forum topic is about to be shut down"

Chilling.

I wish all the best to those of you who live "Down Under", and cherish your freedom to stack at will.

Just because gun ownership is high does not lead to a high gun related death rate

Switzerland for example has one of the highest per capita gun ownership in the world and has a very low gun homicide rate.

I think it is more to do with the gang on gang violence as opposed to outright gun ownership, which is why the USA's gun homicide statistic is so high. I would also agree ig you remove the descendants of slaves figures from that it would be much much lower.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland

In 2005 over 10% of households contained handguns, compared to 18% of U.S. households that contained handguns. In 2005 almost 29% of households in Switzerland contained firearms of some kind, compared to almost 43% in the US.[8]

With only a 0.52 per 100,000 gun homicide rate.

Did you notice that you widened 'intentional homicide' to 'murder'?
Read your own article, it says that the legal definition of 'intentional' varies among countries.
1 reason:
http://www.knack.be/nieuws/belgie/8...dekt-in-belgie-8217/article-normal-88866.html
http://www.uzleuven.be/forensische-geneeskunde/ongewoon-sterfgeval
You know where you would rather live, good luck with it, if some1 murders you the chance is high here that your case is listed as no intentional murder and even no murder at all. Peaceful natural death in the middle of a flower bed.
To illustrate this along another example: some years ago the politicians silently changed the definition of traffic death, and started to exclude all those that didn't die on the place of the accident. If you die in the ambulance that drives away there, then your case ceases to be a traffic death. No wonder the amount traffic deaths dropped since, with the politicians proudly praise it as the fruits of their traffic safety measures (read: penalty everything). Search for 'GAS boete'. Many examples or penalties/fines for plain ridiculous reasons.

Yes, I did. I didn't think there is much difference between 'intentional homicide' and 'murder'. Specially if you are the one dead. :o

I wonder if in the US stats they include people killed by the police? In the US there are more people killed by the police than by terrorists. No, I guess that's not classified under "international homicide"... what do you think?

You seem like a very (un)happy person. If you don't like it in Belgium, you know where the airport is.

Ultimo.

Here's last night's shooting news. They say Pyrmont, but it was Jones St, Ultimo (next to Pyrmont). I walk up that street daily.

Here's the one about a guy being arrested in Ultimo for setting a woman on fire, but he did it in Haymarket nearby.

For something different, here's a story about someone who dumped 2 tonnes of asbestos waste outside a childcare centre in Ultimo.

On a positive note, not everyone has a bullion dealer on their doorstep ;)

BullionList, in case you were wondering :)
