What are your thoughts about buying loose 1gram Swiss gold bars.

I am thinking of adding a new product line to my store.
It is the Valcambi 50 x 1gram Gold Combi-bar
I intend to break it up and sell them in strips of 10, 5 and 1gram bars at a premium about $7 above spot.
A comparable product is the 1gram Pamp bar which would retail for about $14 above spot
Would you be happy paying $7 a gram less for a comparable product that is supplied without packaging?

Do they break cleanly? Have you ever weighed one to see if they are exactly 1 gram or do you lose or gain a miniscule amount when broken up?

That's the issue with this valcambi bars.

I think they will appeal to the shtf crowd, they can break it into pieces if they need to (in shtf).

I might buy 1 sheet just for the heck of it.

I'd also buy one complete sheet for the novelty and/or SHTF scenario. Wouldn't be buying 1g bars though.

Most of my customers are battlers. They can't afford to buy larger units of gold.
Buying 1gram loose bars will let them avoid hefty premiums
Will be selling these bars in any size that suits my customers.
They can buy a 50 x 1gram block, a strip of 10, 5 or just a single bar.

I will be buying them for EXACTLY that reason Steve, not everyone can afford oz bars every week, and prefer to stack small scale...

Incidentally, are you buying direct from Valcambi's online site, or via a supplier - I'm tossing up between options at the moment :/

Buying from a supplier in Oz, RD
Get a quote from Valcambi directly and I am sure I can give you a better shipped price.

The way the POG is going it is good idea.

Once you have some in stock with a price let us know.

Thanks for the post.

AEL,i reckon you are on a winner!!!
And thats great business thinking!!!
The one gram bars around at the moment are appealing but their price sinks the Buy option each and every time.
If you could source a small plastic satchel that you could put them in and add that as an optional extra, they would be even better though they are great as is.

1 gram bars would make great presents for Family and friends and would be a great way for the new initiated to buy into GOLD at a low $$ Risk price.

Great option mate well Done, ill put my hand up when you put some together with a satchel, capsule whatever.

Like Redback's idea on getting these individually capsuled in some way, bought in bulk I imagine it would only add 50c to the cost...

What sort of premium are they if buying the entire 50g block?
I haven't got an exact figure at this stage. The wholesale premium is over $200 for a 50 gram block and I still have to add 1% retail premium on top.

This is the type of thing I might add on to a larger order or a silver order. Just to keep make sure I keep adding to the small gold pile....errr.... to put in the storage matchbox, I mean. :)

The occassional gift too!
