The little price guide does include real mintage figure (where available) by individual Mint. Otherwise, Mr. Ge does talk about which Mint produce which coin.

I believe since majority of Chinese collectors only collect OMP, so the varieties (most, if not all) have been taken care of.
 
Update: Delivery Delays

Hi everyone, many apologies that these books are taking a long long time to arrive in Sydney. These were sent a few weeks back, and are long over due in Sydney (possibly due to all the public holidays this month in both China and Australia).

Stupid question time, what exactly is in the price guide?

Is it a monthly thing like Pricepedia, or a one-off publication?

Are there photos or just text?

Would someone who can only read English be able to work out what anything means in it?

Definitely interested, pending the above :)

One off publication, just text.

It just has the revised mintage estimates by Mr Ge that's all.

It's in Chinese but there are only a few columns you need to understand to be able to read it.

By copy I meant original publication separate from the bigger book :). No worries though, found a source.

Q. Now that I have Mr Ge's price guide, can you roughly tell me how it works? There are so many columns and I don't read Chinese.

A.
The guide has 10 columns.

The first is ID number, his way of classifying coins I guess.

The second is name of the coin.

3rd is year.

4th is face value.

5th is weight.

6th is diameter.

7th is planned mintage. ( means 10,000 so 7 means 70,000; some day 5000/ which means 5000 set)

8th is 'actual' mintage as per Mr Ge's estimates (which are pretty good).

9th is Reference price (which is damn inaccurate, you should be using this price guide for mintage numbers not prices).

10th is the mint it's made at. = Shanghai. is shenyang and there's a few others I have no idea what they are.
 
Although my MCC knowledge is only on an amoebic level compared to many others, I would caution anyone basing all of their assumptions and decisions on any SINGLE BOOK.

Mr. Ge, Peter Anthony, Shen Jiaju and the others have all written phenomenal books based on the information they acquired through experience and research. All of these books are exceptional by each of these authors and they all have tremendous merit.

I know enough to see that there is so much mystery surrounding "actual mintages" of Modern Chinese Coins that it is good idea to use these books as a tool and reference but it is also good to listen to the dealers and collectors as well because they also have a lot of information.

I honestly believe that nobody knows with 100% accuracy the "true" actual mintages or "surviving" populations but the aforementioned authors have collectively provided the best and most reliable information available to us.

I see frequently that we all have said "Mr. Ge's Book" has this or says that but Peter Anthony has done a tremendous amount of research as did Shen Jiaju who wrote the two volumes of books from 1979 to 1990 (the volume from 1979 to 1987 is very hard to find) on Modern Chinese Coins. Shen Jiaju was the General Manager for China Coins Limited for several years and his name is on thousands of COA's of your Modern Chinese Coins so I would believe his knowledge is extensive.

My point is that IMO a person should use these authors as well as those veteran members who have been exposed to MCC for many years to formulate a plan and an idea.

CCF members like badon, tamo42, poconopenn, peng_you, exchange, SANDAC and many others have a lot of MCC knowledge, combine their information with what you glean from these books and you will have the basic fundamentals of MCC collecting.

Predominately the theme I am disseminating is to use multiple sources do not depend on one.

But I do think Mr. Ge book is a must have for all MCC collectors or any coin collector for that matter !
 
Here below are the words from one of the true MCC masters when I questioned him about Modern Chinese Coins, reported mintages, actual mintages and the variances reported in different publications

I wish that my last post regarding MCC information and accuracy good have been this good !
