Just called Perth Mint & ordered the 3 coin silver proof set over the phone! There isn't free shipping with phone orders so no point trying to hit the $400 value.

how much shipping they are charging? $30 or so?

Put the three coin set and proof 1 ounce in my cart, waited 8 minutes then said sorry three coin set not available,,,the one ounce is still available as at 11.47am today, they both came back on sale at 11.00am

Thanks. I just noticed you are from Australia.

I think the shipping to the U.S is around $30.

Was up late last night 12:01 perth time

Was on the phone .. on the web this morning, looking to make progress on the phone and then electricity went out!!

I think it is a message to me not to buy into the lunars!

Heed the message!

I spent a lot of money on lunars last year, I haven't got much silver to show for it and it was a nightmare trying to get them all, late nights waiting for the Mint to open, crashes and forgetting to get the Dragon proof set, the key set to the collection!

All in all it was fun but not a great investment!

Moral of the story, forget about placing orders via Internet... The system is just too screwed! Phone orders are the way to go!

I for one am a little perturbed by how the Perth Mint conduct their business.

If I recall from last year (cannot say this year), I ordered 5 of each of the proof single and proof three coin set and the system allowed me to enter that figure. It was only afterwards I saw the limited mintage numbers. It allowed me to enter those number and I expect then reserved those from the total allocation they have.

Then from what I can gather the next morning someone goes through the list of who bought and who exceeded the limits and the Perth Mint appears to put them back into the total allocation and the web site lights up green again for purchase.

I expect that the same thing occured this year as well as we appear to have the same result with some being offered the next day.

Why not, for fairness, simply stop a user from ordering more than their own limit AT THE TIME of placing the order. Surely the technology is there.

If it sounds like I gripe, yeah I am :), but it is common sense as well. People stay up in different time zones in all parts of the country to lay their hands on these, and if they are truly still available then they should be allowed to be purchased.

That's entirely dependent on each individual website. All sites will run differently based on a multitude of different factors. Some will be on servers which can handle a lot of traffic very well, others will not. Some will have good measures put in to handle their stock quantities effectively, others wont.
Sounds like Perth's site really doesn't handle these type of issues very well, though. Probably running on an outdated system or something.

It shouldn't be that outdated, it was upgraded after the Dragon Launch fiasco only a year ago.

It is a lot better than last year, well, the bullion website is, I haven't tried the shop website.

I dont think it is to hard to allow you to press submit to the checkout and they hold it for 5 minutes until you finish your order if not the database gets updated with an extra one in the system, instead of telling you this at the end of your order process.

I have programmed websites since 1999 up until a year or so ago, i cant see why this keeps happening, but i have not looked after bigger websites, no more than a few thousand hits/minute, but i do know how to interact with MYSQL and PHP/CGI etc. does not seem it has to be this hard.

I went through the process only to be told 20 minutes later there was no 3 coin set, i could have maybe still got the 10z but i want free delivery :).

After trying at 2.01am this morning with no luck, then a call to the mint @11am(only to be told i would go on waiting list). Ten minutes later they where available again (website crashed) so i called the mint again to express was not happy as told they had gone and i was on waiting list. After all this i can say phone calls definately the way to go.

My order is now confirmed:) , alot of hassle to get this done.

Yes, I want free delivery too :) And I am in the U.S., the delivery cost is very high, it just does not make sense to order a $100 coin, and paying $30 shipping:)

To be honest nothing much has changed despite all the fiasco that happened last year with the dragon proof coins. Sadly. Only difference is that they changed the times of the start of sales from 9am Perth time to 1201am Perth time, which IMHO has screwed all Aussie buyers!

There's alot of difference between the bullion site and the shop website. Firstly, only Australian buyers can puchase bullion directly from PM, so traffic on the bullion website is much more subdued that the shop website which is accessed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world trying to purchase a coin with a tiny mintage of 1000 (of which maybe only 100 is for sale via the website!).

I think they may have changed the release time to standardize it internationally for web orders , but It defiantly screws over many of the Aussie Customers.
