One of the best ways to find a job on your own is by volunteering for the SES or the RFS. Both organisations are full of blue collar volunteers that have trade backgrounds which assists them with their volunteer work. Great place to network if your currently unemployed with a trade. But that would require initiative

NIL sympathy for QANTAS maintenance workers etc.
More sympathy for the cabin crews/pilots etc , work crazy hours and conditions.
I get the impression that many in OZ would be quite happy to see QANTAS fail. They can get ready for MUCH higher fares if they do.

Most travelers will see a US ticket go from $1500 to $2500 almost overnight if the QANTAS capacity disappears. It is ONLY competition that keeps them low as it is, not airline generosity.

How often are people flying to the US were it will have a major impact on the consumer... And if it does have a big impact then maybe don't fly so much? because you clearly can't afford it.
Yes, i know about 'supply and demand', and currently the supply (of seats) is the greater. Just using the Pacific as a hypothetical example:-
The loss of all those QANTAS seats will, maybe, reverse that situation, but any airline that replaces those seats with another 'brand' or extra services is just duplicating what we have now.
If DELTA or VIRGIN do that, then they will be cutting each others throats.

If Qantas folds (long way from it at the moment) then there will be plenty of airlines lining up to service US routes.
Thus I don't think major routes would significantly increase in price, rather the less profitable routes (i.e., regional services) would become more expensive.

haha and here we go, Virgin suffers from a loss too. So if the government gives anything to Qantas they will have to do the same for Virgin. Hope they tell them both to F@#K OFF!!
