Mr Wikipedia tells me that QANTAS has a bit over 33,000 employees.

With a bit of luck and bastardry the unions can get QANTAS closed down, and all of them can get the sack.

33,000 is about right. that's how 'they' (the commentators) got to the 3000 employee redundancies (i.e. 10% downsizing), straight out of the Harvard Business School chapter on "Economic Rationalisation"...(don't look it up, I'm being metaphorical).

Honestly, putting all emotion aside...That's the logical & most likely outcome

QANTAS is dead but it won't lay down.Seven/eight years ago the management of QANTAS recommended that a bid of over $5 a share be accepted.

However with an election looming both the blue and red team opposed the sale as the government owned 51% of the airline.

The shareholders will never see another offer like this again. Just in recent weeks the price of oil has gone from $92 to $103.. Now that is not good for all airlines and may well spell the death of QANTAS.

Shareholders will be big losers as will the workers.

Maybe the time is now to build a high speed railway between Brisbane ,Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth?

The Snowy Mt scheme done wonders for Australia years ago.

Lets hope that we as a nation can do so again.

The workers are not the only greedy ones, What about the financial gurus who make money moving money around. That BTW does not include small business.

Maybe the time is now to build a high speed railway between Brisbane ,Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth?

The last government spent 7 billion dollars and couldn't even build a high speed internet connection between Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide Melbourne and Perth.

If you start a price war with your opposition you'd better be sure your losses will be less than theirs. Qantas management have failed miserable with their strategy in recent years.

I thought you were referring to unions vs Qantas management.
Seems the unions waged a war that ended with their losses be more than the opponent.

If you are going to build a NBN, why would you start in Tasmania? Maybe the first stage of the high speed rail could be built there too. ?
Maybe we should just move on an build some more subs.
