Not last time I was there.

Pick your currency and pay the cheapest. If I remember it was cheaper to pay in US$ so that's what we did.

Just got home from Turkey visiting friends and was had to pay $60 US each for our visa on arrival.

Don't know why the 3x increase, it's quite a lot. Maybe it's a recipricol decision since Turks visiting Aus pay a lot for a vias.

What?! Massive companies who can actually run a business and turn a profit are treating a broke government who robs from the population and still can't stay in the black... with contempt, how dare they!?

Not that I have any love for the companies but if I was Microsoft I would just write them a cheque and tell them to stop bothering me as I had work to do.

I'll say it again When I immigrated to Australian in 1974 you had an Aussie dollar worth $1.50 U,S. , full employment less than 2% unemployed who were the normal bottom of the rung individuals who were due to mental and physical disability unemployable.

If you were of sound mind and body and didn't work you were a bludger.

This use to be a nation of can do small business people and happy employees who had a great lifestyle. We have been sold a pup called free (sic) trade designed to enrich the multi nationals and impoverish the working and middle classes.

Our politicians have sold us out. Don't accept their solution challenge them. Big government, big business and unions are the root of our societies problems.

The answer is take control of your destiny think and grow rich

Of course one can. The problem is, "Free-trade" as sold by brand USA is NOT true Free-Trade. It's a treaty with very selective conditions and biased towards US penetration into almost every aspect of the Australian economy/culture/nation.

The most insidious IMO involves media access.

The US pharmaceutical companies lobbied hard to be included in the supposed "free-trade" agreement, specifically aiming to dismantle the Pharmaceutical benefits scheme, central to our supposed "socialised" health care system. Howard rolled over on nearly everything else but wasn't game to do so on the issue of the Pharmaceutical benefits scheme. Not the end of that story though.
