For many years Perth produced 2 oz silver bullion Kookaburra coins.

The last 2 oz silver Kookaburra was the 2009, ( Mint marked P20 ) since then, Perth haven't minted a 2 oz Kookaburra.

The only 2013 - 2 oz coin Perth produces is the 2013 Australian Lunar Year of the Snake 2 oz Silver Bullion Coin.

Traditionally, the 2 oz Kookaburra has an unlimited mintage. The mintage of previous coins is listed below:

So would you buy them if they were available? Perhaps there will be more demand for un-limited mintages; perhaps the 2 oz Kook would be a good choice???

Easy answer: YES

I like the 2oz size, as long as they sold as a bullion coin and not semi-numismatic I would buy them.
 
yes, its my preferences over 5 and 10ozers. if silver goes to a $100 eventually its a couple of hundred a coin, not too expensive.

They can't be re-minted stacker, they're an un-limited mintage so at the end of the year they were issued, that's it. No more ever.

That's the good point of unlimited coin releases, they don't re-mint more. :)

That's what I always thought, but with the new mintage policy it seems unlimited coins can be reminted, only "mint to order" coins are closed at the end of the year.
Lunars and Kooks are unlimited, Koalas are mint to order. It's all very confusing.
 
Stacker, you may be right but I'm pretty sure it's only the limited mintages than can be minted up to their mintage limit.

Un-limited and Mint-To-Order are pretty safe.


Anyway, I'm glad a few people seem to like the 2oz Kooks. :)

You are correct.

The un-limited coins are not safe at all. :|



For UNLIMITED MINTAGE coins:
Coins of an UNLIMITED MINTAGE can continue to be manufactured whilst there is deemed to be interest in the product. The Perth Mint can cease manufacture and declare a final sales figure as the DECLARED MINTAGE after which no further coins can be manufactured.

Some UNLIMITED MINTAGE coins may be sold on a MINT-TO-ORDER basis. This means that there is a specific time period during which the coin can be minted in unlimited quantities. Once that time period has expired, a mintage is declared, and no further coins may be minted.

ebay has a wide range of people whos sometimes absolutely have know clue what are they buying,so I wouldn't go after that stat.I had trouble to sell a 2009 2oz kook here on the forum when one of the above member took it:)

if you find the right person for it until you need it than its all good.I still wouldn't stack 2oz kooks.

I have a 2005 2oz for sale atm in one of my thread for $88,no one wants it ....anyone please?:)

Sorry mate, just trying to provide the forum with an un-bias list of ebay sales figures for 2 oz Bullion Kooks.

The market runs on all kinds of people that's for sure but, the ebay sales figures were just an example of factual sales.

I'm not sure if those ebayers don't have a clue or they actually like buying 2oz Kookaburras but the sales figures are there for all to view.

A sale is a sale, not everyone on here would know what they are doing either. I would expect to buy something on here cheaper than ebay.
 
The 2 ounce coin is a nice size in the hand. I have some of the Dragons and very pleased with them.

Don't have the Snake yet but will go after them once the frenzy of the initial release is died down.
 
A 2oz bullion product sucha as a kook or koala sounds like a good idea. Hence I don't see the perth mint ever doing it. :rolleyes:
 
2oz is a really great size IMO.. it's the right size to see all of the fine details.
2oz koalas? bring it on! :D
 
Are you interested in 2 oz silver Bullion Kookaburras now that Perth have declared the mintages for the period, 1992 - 2009?

As many of you know, the 2013 - 2 oz Kookaburra hasn't been minted by Perth but it has been approved by treasury for minting, as has the 2014 coin.

Would you buy (If available) the 2013 or 2014 - 2 oz Kookaburra?

The only 2 oz Coin Perth currently mints is the Lunar series 2.

All depends what you can buy the 2oz Kookaburras for. $70 would be fair enough. $80 is too steep.

Given you can buy the 1990's (all be it re-struck) 1oz Kooks for the mid $30's, you wouldnt pay anything more than essentially a re-strike price x 2.
 
Love the 2oz Kooks and looking forward to the new ones being minted - long may they continue

Not keen on the privy version

Always on the lookout for a good priced 2oz Kooka to add to the stack
