Paul Kruger Z.A.R. : GOLD ONE POND of 1898

I've purchased a Paul Kruger Z.A.R. GOLD ONE POND of 1898 from the local coin dealer today. I paid $333 (R4000 - ZAR) for it. It is my first gold one pond ever purchased. Do you own any gold "ponde"? What are your thoughts?

Ok, since I've posted it under "Gold" instead of "Gold Coins".... what do you think gold is going to do over the next couple of months? Do you expect the price to go upwards, downwards or sideways?

Long term I think gold WILL go much much higher. The long term trend is up and debasement of currency will happen. The question is time....

Now over the next few months, I don't know. My gut feel is maybe we head up a little then sideways.

Post a picture of your coin!

Just your first pond, or first gold coin?
If it is your first pond then id say gold is gold.
If however it is your first gold coin then , YEHAA!!!!!!!
Gold is beautiful and awesome to own and once you get a taste it is hard to ignore.
My first coin just about hooked me , but the final nail was when i went to flip a mass of silver and a little bit of gold.
Got similar money for the little bit of gold in my hand as i did for the BAG of silver.
Love both but the value in gold is just so dense:)

It is my first pond. I have to agree with you in terms of the value of gold being more dense. I also love the color of gold. I think I am hooked. :-)

Post a picture of your coin!

I also expect it to go much higher long-term, but hopefully we will see more discounts short-term.

P.S. I will try to have a picture ready later today.

Nice coin, some rim damage etc but for the price you have done really well... SA coinage is really popular!

Awesome photos that we can all appreciate! Good job :)

A great historical item! An excellent price too. Still in pretty good condition too.

It's identical to a sovereign in it's purity, weight and size.

Certainly is a dangerous part of the world there.

It certainly is and is getting more dangerous by the day. I could tell you the full truth about South Africa, but then they will probably mow me down like they mowed down my forebear, Boer General Manie Maritz.
