[opinion] 2012 Singapore coin show proof panda

The "GEM" designation is for bulk submission, and in NGC grading scale, it means anything MS65 or higher.

For bulk submissions from large companies, they specify that if the grade falls below such & such, detail that for GEM. So, it is guaranteed it is below 68. Check ebay listing, 68 grades are selling for way more than this. MCM is not there to lose money, and they will not deliberately grade GEM if it can get 68/69/70.

Fair enough. I take them as MS65. It is a cheap way to acquire a coin in NGC holder.

True. This is a great price and way below issue price, let alone the current price at PA.

Has anyone here requested variety designation from NGC for these 2 coins?
I will submit mine when NGC does that.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum friend! :-) I share the same sentiment as you on these coins. BTW - the prices on these are dropping like anything. There is a $550 BIN or best offer listed now for 5oz OMP !

For 2012 Singapore fair medals to become really hot, we just need a repeat coin fair next year at Singapore. That will do the job.

ModernCoinMart is now selling 1 oz Singapore Fair Pandas Raw. I wonder if they are medals which have graded poorly and have been removed from slabs...

I just picked up a die Variety 1 from a forum member on another board.

I have all three dies for 5oz, but it seems CCF members have discovered yet another variety. I am not convinced yet, as the picture from which they concluded that is not very clear - could be lights playing tricks.

Well if they do decide to do another medal next year I hope they sort the die issues out, because

a) It must have cost them a small fortune in new dies to produce this year's medal
b) I do simple, and only having to worry about 1 variety of medal is about as complex as I want to get.
c) Everytime I look at one of these coins I just concentrate on the hugging Pandas right ear (left as you look at it), rather than admire the medal as a whole.

Anyway to end on a positive.. I'm still glad I purchased this years medal, and I'm just joking with my list of complaints. So I hope next years is just as contentious as this years. :)
