The Mrs found them ..... they were in the envelope along with the invoice.

Obviously she had a girl's look, instead of my inferior boy's look.

Very glad PCGS is picking up their game.

It's nice that there's a variety for the 5oz SICF Medal but can you explain what the "Ag 6 spike" is? Cracked die? Confusing lol.
 
Looks like they are designating the following:

1) 4.5 (four and half) spike - this is the 225 mintage broken die
2) 6 spike - maximum mintage anticipated in this category
3) 5 spike - this is yet another broken die, but seem to have more mintage that 4.5

There is a controversy between whether (1) or (3) is rarer. CCF found (1) is lowest mintage, however Peter Anthony's research found (3) is. Hard to say. Problem is that there was just one die for (1), but two same dies (backup) were used in (3), and likely that combined production of two same dies in (3) is more than (1). Sorry if this seems confusing.

All these are combined study of CCF, pricepedia and Jason's ebay posting. Having said these, nothing is official yet - all observations are statistical - so please take it with a grain of salt :-)

Hahaha. Yes the new edgeview holder is ugly.

Anyway the old holder with the gold shield is quite nice, though NGC holder is far better looking.

What I hate about PCGS holder is, their holder is easily scratched, and sometimes the sealing is really bad. I have one if you look from the side view, there is a hole or some missing plastic inside the holder. The holder has not been tampered with, it is just bad QC. It is hard to see unless you really look at the holder under a loupe.

Whenever a company chooses to hide the grade using "gem" designation, it lowers the value. You can safely assume it is below 68. Do not be scared. MCM has flooded the market with these. Once the tide is over, there will be sunshine :-) - of course, it is numismatics, so wait for another 5 years at least, unless the whole China jumps up right now.
 
Yep I don't buy any "GEM" designations because usually (from dealers) that means they are 67 or below.

Rather pay a little bit more for OMP or higher.

The 68 and 69 5oz SG Medals are doing ok.
 
The "GEM" designation is for bulk submission, and in NGC grading scale, it means anything MS65 or higher.
