Captain's Log....
I believe tonight we are seeing the commencement of a major attack on gold something similar to the drive-by shooting of silver on May 3rd. The recent unprecedented rise in gold has been 'allowed' to happen in order to increase the number of speculative longs and drive the gold price into an unsustainable range - far above the 150 day moving average. This celebrated rally has gone largely unopposed since early August. While this welcome rise has certainly been in keeping with gold's overall long term fundamentals, the short term position is now overbought and primarily driven by short term investor sentiment.
If JPM had wanted to go full retard on this rally they could have done so three weeks ago. There have been no significant CME margin increases, and some pro-gold articles have once more appeared in the MSM always a bad sign!
I expect tonight's attack to be serious. Gold has already shed around $50 in the past 90 minutes; this pressure may continue for the next 36 hours or so, with occasional rallies.
Overall the monetary metal may even retrace to around 1690 per ounce or lower.
I believe this will be done to liquidate the current longs and deliberately weaken the overall PM complex immediately prior to the upcoming seasonal gold 'take off'. By wiping out the speculators JPM will leave primarily the Asian and Indian buyers who will be easier to predict and control. In effect JPM have recently betrayed their horde of klingon copy cat shorters - who were profiting from JPMs knavish antics. Some of those short traders went right to the wall in recent weeks, while others covered their shorts and went long - at great expense. Sadly they will soon be squeezed yet again as JPM shifts gears and re-exerts control over the market and wipes them out again as all good friends do.
In the mean time we can expect continued strong (i.e. managed) volatility in global equities. The "VVVVVV" volatility there is driving a lot of money into US Treasuries - which were recently downgraded. That downgrade was a scary event for institutional investors, prompting them to head for the traditional safe haven of... ummm.. U.S. Treasuries.
Watch Europe now! They will wave their arms around helplessly for a while longer, before eventually deciding that Eurobonds makes perfect sense after all. That region's debts will continue to mount up. When Eurobonds are finally announced some of the present market volatility will magically disappear - as if it were planned that way.

I for one have been holding back for a while on gold hoping to get in a little lower, was thinking it overvalued ( or missed the boat
Took to more silver instead. ( wasnt gonna leave it in cash now. )
Hopefully the gsr shrinks with gold taking more of the hit & hopefully finding and strengthening a strong support somewhere around a previous high when it does ( while hopefully silver cements support above $40)
Pity that a drop means the $ value of the stack you have goes down. but better than a big pump and dump like silver in april, where possible long term holders get burned at the top and lose interest in the market.
