I sometimes think the pirate ship should be changed to a submarine.

Then Captain Turk could be like... DIVE DIVE DIVE.... ($30 spot price)
And then be all like, Mr Errol, can you bring us up to periscope depth.... ($50 spot price)

That's a very good idea Retarded Monkey, only then we would all be pretending, wouldn't we --
when in actual fact we are all now sailing an a five-masted sailing ship with a golden anchor and Ozama Un Leaden
serving us cornflakes every morning.

So I think we should all stick to reality for now...

(On the other hand.... ;) )

Just popping up the daily chart to record all the recent action for posterity.

We are at a critical point for silver at this stage.

Friday's FED meeting will shed some light on the medium term silver movements, but we are unlikely to get a lot of downside movement from here.

Silver has formed a couple of firm basis around the 38 and 42 marks since May 3. We are pretty much sitting pretty on one right now.

JPM are doing a good job holding the price down, but it's obviously getting harder for them each day.

What will Bernanke announce at Jackson Hole? At the *very least* he will appear to be 'open' to further QE "if it is needed."

There are two courses he might take. One will disavow further overt QE, and one will support it.

If he refuses further QE (in any form) the stock market will drop sharply and subsequent 'events' will very quickly force him to change his mind.

I think the following article is VERY significant http://www.financeandeconomics.org/Articles archive/2011.08.17 Bank Credit Repo.htm

If Bernanke switches to the Repo market and starts tapping into the Non-Borrowed Reserves (NBR) of the commercial banks, he will effectively enable those banks to wave their 'fractional reserve wands' over the borrowed amounts and swell the primary money supply by tens of trillions of dollars. (It's like a financial short-circuit.)

That's probably the worst possible thing imaginable for the US economy.

If his Friday announcement is REALLY bad for the economy long term then the stock market will rally and seem stabilize, but I somehow think he will do something else that will 'delay' that longed-for stability for a week or two. Even Ben tries to appear unpredictable occasionally.

If the announcement is good for PMs (and I can't imagine him saying anything else!) then we can expect the PM prices to be hit hard, or at least held down from rising too much. Might be a good time to raise gold margins at the CME - as Lovely80 suggested yesterday. Silver might lose a couple of dollars - but if it does DON'T DELAY - because we are about to leave the low 40s very soon now - and this time there will be NO going back.

oi, seea ya der too midnight man,
good midnight man.

My take is that its profit taking after the margins were raised, and/or mabie some bigger players repositioning themselves in the hopes of avoiding being overcommitted in case of a further margin hike.

Volitility is up, and sentiment in the lead up to tommorrows news could also be a factor.

Ahoy Captain Turk,

I hope ye has had a good twip, Ye Crew 'as bean egor lee arwating ye return, and appears to be so 'appy ye ave return'd.

I 'as hope'd ye would exculpate me as I 'as been stowed away, lurken in de hold for somewhat a time ( Stackin the crates of course ), and is 'open to now urn me keep wit de rest of de crew.

Lest I n'd up on de plank again, dem waters looking awfully choppy at de moment.
Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

$41.22 AUD

Forgive me Azure, I forgot to welcome thee aboard this fine vessel.

There are actually about seven people stowed away in the hold right now. We know they are there - but they don't know we know they are there.
But every so often the smell of lime and coconut juice draws one or two of them out of hiding and we welcome them aboard officially - so WELCOME AZURE!!

You may consider yourself fully exculpated too, but please remember that we frown on sesquipedalian tendencies

You are quite safe from the plank too.

It's currentlly out of action after a Ozama received a splinter in his finger from it some time back.
Health and Safety are looking into the issue and have recommend we might need to replace it with an AS-2005 Certified Plank - or one of those new Shimano Carbon Fiber Composite Planks that are all the rage on the Continent.

Another interesting night ahead.

NY opened 35 minutes ago.

Usually takes a few minutes for spot to settle down - after the initial daily trades get out of the way. Might be a bit of metal buying to support the price in early trading but gold will probable come under attack again tonight, which might weigh on silver. Nothing we haven't seen before though. As some here expected the gold margins were increased last night, hammering down the gold price nicely. I expect the downward trend to continue tonight, but to be less extreme than last night.

Here is an enlargment of the silver chart, showing last night's and today's action:

910_chart-25-08-11.jpg

And here is today's gold chart - well worth a long look at this one:

910_gold_25-08-11.jpg

In gold I think we can look for spot moves somewhat echoing the late April takedown.

For gold, both the recent up-move and the sudden down-move have been severe.

The chart suggests (to me) that JPM might be trying a new approach rather than merely suppressing the metals heavily (day and night) they now seem to let the metals run up the chart strongly (drawing in fresh longs) then -- once the action becomes top-heavy and unstable -- they use late night margin increases and heavy shorting (etc.) to hit the metal hard over a period of several days. Tonight will be day three.

This 'seems' to be their current play at the moment.

If they can get either metal down to the 50DMA they can do some technical damage to trading which probably gets them all bonus brownie points or something.

(They might try to hit silver down to its 50DMA tonight. See the green cirle above - it's looking tempting. Watch and see - and grab some online bargains if you are buying - like I am currently.)

I'm off below to plot our now course....

SPOT : USD $39.48

SC: "Looking for an Echo" please?! :)

There's been a little run-up in both metals since US market opened, but waiting for a bit of a pullback now.

I'll wake up tomorrow and see what damage has been done!
