I wonder if Mr Leyonjelm also thinks a war pension is a charity ... because it is certainly not a consolation prize ...

Or they get it at an earlier age or whatever. I honestly don't know but am very curious because what I see in places like America pretty much amounts to fraud in my mind, government-sanctioned fraud but fraud all the same.
I completely agree about the pension being charity. I have no intention of taking it personally, if I can possibly help it. Never know where life will take you of course but that is my intention.

Good luck claiming your "entitlement" if there is no money there to claim.

Finally, before anyone complains about hypocrisy from a politician, I should point out that the scheme giving retired federal politicians a generous life pension was closed in 2004. New politicians like me contribute to a superannuation fund, the same as everyone else who has a job. And, like everyone else, whether we will need welfare in the form of a pension depends on how much super we manage to save, not how much or how long we have paid tax.

Do those supporting the home being exempt from the pension test think this is a fair scenario?

Corporations pay as little tax as possible and claim funding where possible.
Im sure most people claim every cent they come at tax time.
I fail to see the difference here.
