Legends of Asgard: Max Relief the star of a beautiful new Odin coin

Since we are in the topic of Chinese medals, can someone answer me on this:

With the right tools and materials (carving pens, drills, sandpaper to name a few), anyone can create "medals" at home and sell them, at a very limited mintage (5-10?). How does the Chinese government control these medal "makers"?

Some may say these are not from "official mints", but other than being qualified to be graded by NGC what else is missing for medals not minted from official Chinese mint?

@Gaito I do like the chinese medals as well, but the price point on those bad boys for real silver isn't anywhere close. The brass version compares in price point with the asgard. I like both and have no issues with folks comparing apples to oranges. They are same same but different. I would love to buy some of the chinese ones, but all I could get for the price is brass, which I don't want. The medal would be more of an artist piece, which they are but this still stays in the realm of a coin. A step is a step forward or at least progress.

@AUAG - I was asking about the slab, because I picked up a couple. I was thinking of slabbing one set for the US market (we love our slabs) and one to enjoy as is in all its glory.

Hey majority of the china medal and coin do not make any publication and marketing in English at all. Therefore, it is not easy access to western countries.

Therefore some cheap medal with good quality and so on BUT many of English speaking collectors are not aware at all.

I take a simple example of the Ag world heritage :-

http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-63193-4th-medal-world-heritage-series-pics.html

The first few medals issue price was at USD550 no buyers at china which I and barsenault clear up around 15% of the actual mintage of 50 pcs (as at today) at low price. Those become around 1K plus now.

Again I did post a thread and make a comparison of the 4 th world heritage medal with the western mints similar medal as following:-

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do you feel it is familiar of the dragon with pillar?

Anyone recall the temple of heaven by Poland Mints ? 999 mintage 3.2oz retail price at USD309.

https://firstcoincompany.com/S/all_silv cave-32-oz

This is also 4 layers high relief if I am not wrong. The details are more clear and outstanding. 300 gram which is 2 time more than the temple of heaven. 2 sides high relief with 2 designs.

Temple of heaven per oz USD103 vs world heritage per oz 73 (660/9oz). if it is below 600 or 600 it much lower per oz.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Knowing the network and connection to get it is the key. This medal always delay due to them focus on bad china economy and other many reasons. However, this clearly tell you the price is much cheaper than western mints with better design and high relief.

Lucky I got 5 set of the first 3 and sold 3 set with good margin and left 2 set which 1 set is for collection for sure.

I would've loved to have purchased the medal for a cheaper price, but the prices points are significanly different.

One thing I did want to mention, Western mints imitating/copying Chinese mints? Blasphemy! lol If only the western world realized that Asian countries in general can innovate and have innovated and don't just "copy" other countries.

I just went to Choice Bullion and First Coin Company's pages on the Odin coin....the prices of the coin has gone up a little. Are sales that heavy that the demand has driven up the price so quickly? It's only been like 2 days for goodness sakes.

I also noticed that First Coin Company now has a real easy way to chose between the same serial number subscription to the series and the standard Odin coin purchase:
https://firstcoincompany.com/S/index.php?route=product/search&filter_name=Odin

.

Most hot coins start going up in price pretty quickly. I bet this one will be over $200 by September. If one wanted to get in on the party now is the time to act IMHO. The first of most series is the coin to have and I am sure that will be the case here also.

I just came across PowerCoin's listing on eBay for this coin...why so expensive? http://www.ebay.com/itm/ODIN-RULER-...okelau-2016-/271965268464?hash=item3f5264a9f0

I've purchased a number of collector coins from PowerCoin over the past 3 years and they had the best prices for those coins I sought. Interesting that they are pricing the Odin coin considerably higher than the U.S. dealers.

.

don't forget eBay needs to be fed too. I sold a few silver pieces on eBay and their seller fee is not cheap.

I have copy this message and start a new thread under china modern coin index in order not to mess up this thread.

Go check it :D

Hello mm,
I found a better price on PowerCoin website:
http://www.powercoin.it/en/oceania-...-relief-3-oz-silver-coin-10-tokelau-2016.html

Their prices on ebay are usually higher to feed paypal and ebay fees, but on their website I bought two coins at 159.95 (each).

I like also their advertising picture:

USD $159? When I open the link it states 160.95 Euro which is USD $186.77. Which incidentally, is not much more money than the disgusting and hideous Perth Mint's low relief Globs of Olympus 2 oz coin.

The Odin coin is a real bargain by comparison to the Perth Mint coin....the Odin coin by Choice Mint is a much better design, much higher relief, notably less cost per ounce, has the serial number stamped directly into the edge, and much nicer packaging.

Hands down winner = Choice Mint Odin 3 oz coin!

Can't get the gorgeous Chinese medals here. I ordered an Odin coin though.

I get what you are saying Silverpv - it's been a rough past 3 weeks for silver and possibly the worst time in many years to release a collector (numismatic) coin because of the (temporary) very noteworthy spike down in the spot price (lowest point it has reached in years). That means, for some stackers who are also collector coin buyers, more of a focus on the lowest premium blobs.

Of all the recently released numi coins within the past month though, this "Max Relief" Odin coin seems to have gotten the most attention and stands (literally, relief-wise) considerably above the rest.

It has really high relief but the details are just not sharp enough for my liking, the coin may do well reselling etc, but could have been so much better imo as regards to the poor detail/sharpness.
