Legends of Asgard: Max Relief the star of a beautiful new Odin coin

Numismatic coins make for better preservation of value and usually have better potential for price appreciation. As I've always been told, high tide lifts all boats so when the spot price goes up all bullion and numismatics increase in value. The drawback of numismatics is liquidity and if not an expert, investing or speculating in the wrong coins can lead to huge losses. Bullion is subject the spot price. However, at $14 and a near 80-1 gold to silver ratio, downside risk is almost non-existent. Buying semi-numismatic coins like the 2016 pandas are an absolute no brainer. Each year you gain a premium as the designs continually change. When I can buy 2 sheets of Pandas for basically $600, or $20 a coin, I know I won't lose on them. Better % gains than PM lunars.

I'm holding my Odin coin long term but maybe dropping the mintage on the next coin is the way to go as others have suggested? It sounds very reasonable to me.

They do seem to be selling... just looking at the completed listings, I see seven sales in December. The problem for me is that they are at my break-even price. The one sold on Dec. 10th was from an auction and had 20 bids and sold for $202.50 US/$278.33 AUD.

I wouldn't pay more. It's the same coin. Heck, if people think that, what's to stop someone from buying a shiny new one, if the old one in the square capsule was toned, and just slide the new one in, and presto, let me charge you more premium for the restrike in the old square. lol

The market for these is fine. Once there are two or three out in the series one will be glad they have the Odin IMHO. This is a very different type of issue and it will take time for the entire market to gain awareness and for some of the initial flippers to sell. Once they get into stronger hands it will take more and more to pry them from the holders hands. I guess time will tell but I place my bets and like where I am sitting. :)

So who has received this coin? How does it look? Mine never arrived :(

You never received your Odin order?

The coins look very nice...better in hand than in pictures, IMHO.

Mine looks great! I'll try and post pictures later. Were you still looking to get one? I've got a second one that I'm potentially willing to sell... send me a PM if you're interested and maybe we can sort something out.

Thanks, I love to see some pics. I'm still hoping to get mine one day but it depends on the postal system. The dealer had a defect with their mailing system and didnt send it to the delivery address so I'm hoping it gets returned and resent.

Lowering the mintage on the next coin might be an interesting experiment, not sure how that would be viewed by the coin community. At least the Valkyrie will be unique among all these Norse series' so it could stand out, do we know the mintage for the Perth release in March? Valkyrie will be going head to head with that one.

Any one heard whats going on with the lottery thing?

Late last year it was announced here in this SS forum thread that there would be a free raffle by Choice Mint for their new 3 oz Valkyrie coin.....has anyone heard of an update to that announcement? It was supposed to be open to customers who purchased the Odin coin on pre-order (if I remember correctly) as many of us here did.

No updates have been posted yet. The plaster for Valkyrie has taken a few more revisions that expected, but the coin samples we showed to dealers in Berlin were a hit. We still have a couple of small improvements to make before we're ready to call it done. Once we have everything set we'll provide more details of the 10 coin raffle as well, probably another couple weeks away.

I'm in no hurry for this or any coin...money is very tight these days.

I'd rather see a mint having delays due to improving the design quality than not having delays just pushing out inferior junk. So, I applaud Choice Mint for taking their time to really get the next coin in this series the best possible design and sculpts before minting the actual coins.

Every time I open the box and look at this one I have to say I am impressed. All the collaterals are first class also. Looking forward to Valkyrie for sure.

I was just going thru some of my bins, and pulled out a couple of the Odins - Legends of Asgard.

I have to say, I'm a bit shocked that those things are not more popular, meaning that they aren't sold out and hard to find on the secondary market. Those 3 oz beauties, well, they are beauties. As usual the pictures, and videos do that thing no justice. Db23 you really did a great job with those. I just have to say it again, I'm super impressed. If the 2nd one is anything like the first, which I suspect it will be better, it is just a matter of time before the series catches fire, where they are hard to find.
