Help On these 2 Perth Mint Medallions

Stumbled upon this completed listing for another Perth Mint silver medallion:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PERTH-MI...11466503762?pt=AU_Bullion&hash=item19f3ebde52

There is a short write-up by Sterling and Currency:

A solid 999 fine silver ingot from the Perth Mint - sold initially as a souvenir, now a collectible in itself and an investment!

The Perth Mint struck 1ozt silver ingots for sale to tourists and other visitors to the Perth Mint from the late 1980's through the 1990's. These impressive medallions were made of one ounce of pure silver, and as you can see from the images, were struck to their exacting proof standards.

The designs on these medallions feature an attractive frosted relief, while the backgrounds feature the same mirrored finish that the Perth Mint's proof coins are now world famous for.

Each ingot / medallion is housed in a custom faux leather presentation case (emblazoned with the Perth Mint logo).

Glad I managed to get one today and yes that is the listing. Given the one on here sold for over a Ton I am sure there will be a few more watchers.

So I just bought one on ebay :) there is another for sale if anyone is interested $18.50 start price 5 day sale I think.
Spotted those, nice pickup. Though without certificate it's hard to speculate when they were produced... so possibly up to 5-10 years newer. The case is different too.

Yes probably newer than the one you had because the case also looks a lot newer, seems they were also made through the 80,s and 90,s.

Still nice to have even without the COA given its a round anyway.

Nope mine is an 80,s so a bargain for $50 inc postage :)

Thanks Ronnie and all thread contributors, you've sparked my interest in these Perth Mint pieces.

I managed to buy a couple last week - both with the old mint logo.

One being the: Perth Numismatic Society 1965 - 1990 25th Anniversary.

The other: The Perth Mint Western Australia Established 1899.

The Perth Numismatic Society medal has a mintage of 100 according to a post by Walter Bloom on WA Numismatica website.

A few photos..

Both in this type of case...

Definitely looking out for some more of these!

In reference to The Perth Mint Western Australia Established 1899, the website http://allengelhard.com/the-collections/lesser-refiners/perth-mint/
gives the estimated mintage amount as <1000. Just an estimate I presume as it is not backed up with any other info.

I'm presuming the V V on the lower right side of the mint building are the initials of Vambola Veinberg.

A longshot but hoping someone can post or link to an image of a COA if any exist.

The COA is signed GW Williams director of The Perth Mint

Bron can you help ?

I just stumble into the information you needed.

It all Started Here.... This are the first release production.....

The Gold Medallion First issued in Sept 24 1981.

32.54 mm diameter with the fineness 9960, issued price at that period was $586 plus Tax 30%
The director at that Period was G W Robinson
The Perth Mint at that period was known as Great Western Gold Exchange - The House of Gold

Can support with the evidences I gather.

I sold one almost exactly the same in an auction here late last year and it achieved just over $100 (as I recall):

Is this really now worth $350 or even $650 which you have bumped it up to Chip? Is there any precedent for a sale of one for more than $200?

Thank you for the info and images guys. Much appreciated.

I could only find an old blurry thumbnail image of the certificate in a google search.

The image linked back to SilverStackers but had obviously been removed from an out of date post yet still archived on google.

Nice to finally read what it says with an explanation of the Tudor Rose and the seal being the quality guarantee of LBMA.

Bullion Baron you had a real diamond - you sold too cheap.

I sold at market value at the time (that's what an auction achieves). Perhaps it's worth more now now. What do you think it's worth clear? What would you pay for one?

Someone pick yours for Real Bargain

If you had the coin , the pouch, the COA , and you could prove provenance - I would pay $ 650.

At the time I sold mine there were a couple sold on ebay for around the $50-80 mark. Mine was in slightly better condition.

Based on what other sales are you suggesting mine was too cheap?

Based on what other sales or "research" are you basing an asking price of $350-650?

In another word you are following another Mule.
Who have no clue what he had.

I recently aquired The Perth Mint 90TH ANNIVERSARY 1899 - 1989 in the original red case.

An anecdote from the seller who worked for The Perth Mint at the time of the anniversary,

...apparently all the employees were given one.

Just bought one of these, really hard finding any info on these, all the old links posted are dead, went to the Engelhard and it gives some basic info, this is the first I have ever seen in my searches, they are out there as there seems to be a few stackers with a few stashed away. Has anyone been able to find any further info on them?? Pretty exxy for 1 oz of silver, I might slap myself later on for the purchase, was a hard decision to purchase on the complete lack of info available on a Sunday. Impulsive me, could not wait for Monday to shed further light, just had to pull the trigger.
