Just thought I'd start a thread about home hand pours. I am still learning and I know I could learn heaps more from others here with techniques and howto's.

Show off your hand pours here..
Great idea for a thread.

The only problem is that my PS is limited to 3 amps, which slows things down somewhat.
I'll make another sometime with more like 10 amp capacity.

Not sure but I thought it wouldn't really work when over 4 amps I'm probably wrong I'm just going off what I've learned from watching youtube vids

It dose look like a sweet set up buy the way to mite have to get back to you when I plan to give it a go for some tips if that's ok

I think you're confusing voltage with current.

Yes, over 4 volts apparently causes other metals to be deposited (or some other undesirable effect), but the current can be huge. I believe they run hundreds or thousands of amps in large scale industry.

I run my cell at 3.3 - 3.5 volts, but my power supply will drop that down if the current reaches 3 amps.

Ahh my mistake in my confusion thanks for correction.

I'm still having trouble with slag (crud from the furnace blowing into the crucible)
The 2 large ones have just had a mild acid dip to clean a little of the scum off.
The 3 smaller ones were worse and I've scrubbed the tops with steel wool.
(Need to rebuild the furnace)

After doing so many bars with the pretty swirls, decided to play around with a different surface on the bars...so I tried something like Scottsdale Silvers Tombstone nugget bars .

It looks MUCH better in person, the pictures don't capture it at all...and its completely smooth in the hand...no sharp edges at all.

Small ( 8 oz ) Ball peen hammer

To not go batty from the loud silver ring, made sure whatever part of the bar I was striking ...was centered in my non-striking hand.
