Hand pour hobby thread

Another interesting surface effect. Acid etch to reveal the crystal structure.

After doing so many bars with the pretty swirls, decided to play around with a different surface on the bars...so I tried something like Scottsdale Silvers Tombstone nugget bars .

It looks MUCH better in person, the pictures don't capture it at all...and its completely smooth in the hand...no sharp edges at all.

What's the significance of the masonic stamp?

Very nice! How did you create that finish?

Small ( 8 oz ) Ball peen hammer

Interesting effect. Looks time consuming though...
And I imagine a fair amount of care required to get an even distribution.

Not time consuming at all, maybe 10 or 15 minutes .

No care really needed, its easy to re-do any area of the bar that you went too heavy or light on...no such thing as messing it up...the metal is soft enough to be very forgiving.

You get into a rhythm doing it, really fast and easy to get great results.

What's the significance of the masonic stamp?

After reading this http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/sociopolitica/sociopol_moneymisterymagick.htm I figured it would fit right in on a hunk of silver :)

OK, repaired the furnace, and there's much less crud flying around to get into the crucible, but the scum problem is no better.
Thinking maybe it's impurities in the metal, I've started re-refining a kilo of what I believe is at least 995.
Starting with a source that pure, the amount of copper (or anything else) that can get into the final result is far, far less.

In the process of making the electrolyte, I dissolved 62g down to 25g, giving this deeply etched effect.

I have bought a few "silverfox refining" home poured bars, high premium but worth it when you see just how much work he puts into these small bars in his home shed!

You need to stamp your bars because when you look at the selling price of antique/unusual and unique silver bars
01 will ultimately be the rarest :)

Need a tumbler and good stamp first.. Then i'll try my luck selling them..

Yes! I am a fan of SR.. Not too sure about his safety extracting indoors like he does :D But otherwise he puts love and effort into each bar.. Do you have any to show? I'm waiting on mine to arrive..

Heres a pic of my 3 SFR small hand pours

How do you add the markings/writing? Do you have a stamp or is it in the mould?

They are not my pours but maker uses number/letter punch and hammer.

Doesn't seem to be many small ingot shaped bars made? I would buy them.
