Chinese medals - silver isn't the only composition!

I also prefer to do this. But there is no guarantee that these sources aren't obtaining some stuff from TaoBao. I know for some medals that their owners list them on TaoBao.

3 types of official mints medal. First medal by the mints itself. It sells to main distributors and resell to reseller.
Second, medal by private sponsor. Third, joint project by mint and sponsors.

For first one you can know the distributors Sng reseller easily if u are in the circle.

Second one, you are easily identified the sponsor if you are collecting Long time. Example lunar panda which bob and me are the sponsor. We sell to few resellers only.

Third one , this is more confusing and not easily to follow up.

Generally, we do not buy from Toa boa because we know the mints and major sponsors and distributors. We do not works with certain sponsors and distributors since we cannot have same view.

You can notice that we do not sell a lot stuff because we are selective sell items to avoid those risks
 
I was not talking about you and barsenault, but in general. As you know bigger resellers or mints it's probably easier for you, but for "average" person it's hard to know from where coin and medal come, even if it's bought from respected dealers. They might get burnt as well sometimes.

When something become hit like Xi-Shi it's too tempting to obtain few pieces from TaoBao and sell them.

There are plenty of fakes on feeBay, but people are still buying there. In fact I know a case when official producer of the coin contacted eBay yet they did nothing.

I stopped believing in a honest world long time ago. And I'm in coin and medal collecting long enough to encounter many things. More people involved and bigger the pie, bigger chance that somebody will be tempted to do what maybe otherwise he wouldn't... sadly is the money who is keeping the world turning not vice versa.

Understood. Money is the evil to tempt to ppl to fake it.

I have way to identify fake China coins. As China medal which collectors are lesser than China coin and profit is lesser than China coin in general. They will fake the high selling price medal but not the average price due to margin and no of collectors are lesser than fake China coin. Fake medal is poor quality and easier to identify than good and high grade fake coin.

This building trust list of dealer who specialise in medal and train your skills to identify fake are important.
 
But for high price medals there are also not so many sellers. There are many sellers, e.g. on eBay, that have listed some expensive medals for ages. Unless if price it's so lower that maybe smbdy will buy, but usually on eBay it goes if it's too cheap it can be suspicious.

Whereas medals up to around 1000$ might be better "target". But yeah, I guess some people spend more in one month for medals than me in a few years.:)
 
The business that produces fakes incurs costs with the production of those fakes. It makes much more sense that this business will create fakes of very common popular coins like Pandas than for any medal...even the most popular medals has a far smaller buyer base than for common coins like Pandas.

Besides, it's much more costly to create a convincing fake of a genuine large high relief medal than it is to create a fake for a flat disc genuine Panda coin.

I wouldn't really worry too much about fakes of the large high relief medals....I'd be much more concerned with fake Pandas.....which there are a lot of fake Pandas around.

High relief much harder to fake.

Both of you stark and mmsing are right for the comment.

Panda lunar goat by Shenyang mint and the dragon phoenix restrike 1 oz 2 pcs (shanghai mints) have fake in ebay. However, it is super easy to recognize it is fake.

Panda lunar series is too well received and recognize so it come out with fake.

Xu Bei Hong famous in horse, shrimp and other painting but not tiger and dragon. It is not lunar.
 
Thanks for sharing. Dog on the 2nd picture looks a little bit scary.:) If they make it with young tiger I buy it immediately. :) I think that dog looks nice, but teddy bear wins.;)

This is big medal. How much in your pocket to pay for silver ?

Like and willing to pay is 2 different things.

Generally, silver medal above 90 mm will cost you usd1.8 k and above.

This the reason many sellers do not sell it in eBay. Cashflow plus buyers willingness to pay

This one issued by China Copper Medal (Da Tong zhang) Association, designed by Beijing brazie Art Communication Co. Ltd.

This is their web site. they have paid membership, and usually sponsors at least 4 Medals each year. Some of their design is just as good, if not better than the State owned ShenYuang Mint or ShangHai Mint, etc.,
