This might be one of thoes silly questions that has an answer staring me in the face but is the Perth Mint releasing a non coloured carded Koala this year?
I see the carded coloured koala on a mint to order release but no sign of the blue bullion carded release.
Or with all the confusion of the definition of speciman vs bullion ect is 2012 the last year for the bullion carded Koala making this a 5 year series?
Any insight would be appriciated.

(asked this on a different tread but thought there might be more eyes here to help out with an answer.)

I also would like to know if koala specimen carded is over or is going to be only in color format...Or will be a new one.
In may also no new about this coin....
Someone know something about it?

Perth Mint won't be issuing the normal silver koalas in cards this year, only the coloured koalas. This comes from a friend who has contacted the Perth Mint about it.

Does this mean that the 1oz carded bullion series has come to an end ( series 1 anyway )

If this is the case......I can see the series becoming extremely collectable ....especially since there is only 7 years to collect .

For those that have the collection......I think the Perth Mint has just done you guys/gals a favour $$$$$$$

If the 2013 coloured Koala is released individually in singles and rolls of 20 etc, Perth may as well of, kept carding the normal bullion coins. :(

Personally, I hope the 1oz coloured Koala is only available as a carded coin. For "$79" each it better be! :)

I hope Perth release a carded coin containing the coloured and bu coin in the same pack.

at most these coloured koalas will last for two years, then Perth Mint will have to go back to make the carded bu again.

it's unfortunate, but what to do?? :P :/

OMG!!!

Perthmint is taking some bad decisions....
They could issue the news coloured carded coins but continue with the normal carded koala....
What a mistake...

I like this coins because are similar to kangaroo Royal australian Mint..

Another stunning decision from the Perth Mint.
If I'm collecting the carded series why the heck would I want two coloured ones in the mix that will stick out like dogs b***s.
Coloured Koalas do not belong in the same series as the carded bullion Koala.
Has the Mint not noticed that their current coloured Koala offerings are still availble, hence they should get the message that they are not popular so why the hell butched a sucessful series by adding an unsucessful coin to it.
Just when I think that this organisation couldn't get more removed from its customers they pull one more act of stupidity out of the hat.
Oh well there goes another series that the Perth Mint has f***d up.
On to the next one to wait and see how long it will take for the mint to ignor its customer base and butcher the series at the first opportunity.

Cant wait for next years coloured kookaburra to replace the bullion release.......:/

Ok ..... Ron and Bron.....he he he.....sounds like a kids program on the ABC ?

Please come out and set the record straight......will there be a 1oz carded bullion koala this year ?
If no....please explain the reasoning behind the decision....

Well I posted my displeasure on the Perth Mint blog cause I am/was collecting this series and apparently just like that it is discontinued.

Sigh

You can also post comments about it and try to change this decision

I dont understand this decision , last year they made a lot of dragon kind coins... And this year they decide to eliminate this coin that was the only one from the begining of koala bullion series.....

They are becoming mad

If you remember, Perth had difficulties understanding market terminology and their own "new" written policy of what describes a specimen coin.

Perth still don't understand what a specimen coin is but in their wisdom and their description of a specimen coin they abruptly halted the production of the 2012 carded Koala because it did not meet the descrition of a specimen coin!

Perth at that time last year, when production halted for 2012 Koala card, they were under-pressure by the market to get their act together, particularly with regard to the re-striking of the 1oz bullion Kookaburras coins and the potential to restrike many other numismatic products from years ago.
We saw the re-striking of the proof 2oz lunar coins, the Kooks and other numi products.

The hostile reponse from collectors (Some mentioned a class action) basically put Perth into desperate measures to try to quell the hostility and of course, Perth management re-wrote their mintage policy and declared many of the mintages.

The Carded Koala coins, as we all know, have a description, of being specimen coins and...Perth's numismatic web site gave descriptions of the coins as being specimen coins.

You may have noticed that, a week or two prior to Perth halting sales of the 2012 Carded Koala that Perth erased any mention of the previous carded (2007 was listed) 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Koala coins.

I'm not exactly sure why Perth removed all reference to previous carded coins but... imo, Perth was charging GST for the carded coin when in-fact no GST is applicable for a bullion coin. (This "could be the reason") :|

From the people I've spoken to, no one wanted a coloured Koala carded coin, :( what the market asked for was... the same bullion coin that was either hand selected or "graded-MS69)" or some how distinguished the carded bullion coin from any other bullion koala coin.

Perth could have given the market a "Specimen" of the Koala bullion coin but they chose to give us a coloured coin.

Perth in their wise-ness, must have decided that, to meet their description of what a specimen coin was, and to fill their GST obligation, The Coloured Koala Coin would cover their arse legally and also fit the description.

Now Perth have a predicament!

If Perth releases the 2013 coloured Koala as a - "Coloured bullion coin" as per the Currency ACT, will the new carded coloured Koala be a specimen coin or...a coloured Koala bullion coin?

It's a catch 22 situation.

Perth Mint bought too much paint, its too expensive to be used on the building, so koala get it.

may be we can organise a Group Buy, just for the koala card, exactly similar in design with PM, just a photo picture and blue in colour. :p

So all they realy need to do is to either stop charging GST on the carded koalas or distinguish them somehow from the other bullion releases by grading them.
Seams they have two options that would keep colectors happy but instead they ignored what the collectors wanted and decided to release a coloured coin that no one wants.
Ahh Perth Mint you've done it again. At least they are consistent in ignoring their customers desires and creating headaches for themselves by using fuzzy terminology that has now created a legal headache.
Watching the Perth Mint over the last couple of years has been like watching a slow motion train wreck. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Think I will only collect 10 oz bars from the mints product line now, sick of half sets and remints.

The carded series does have one thing going for it perhaps, it's full of controversy!

The front of each carded Koala in the series, has various title's as you can see from the list below, plus... the original web pages on Perth's web-site (Now removed) says on some of the pages that the coins are "Specimen-Quality:

None of the carded coins have anything on them in printed matter that says they are specimen coins!

Only Perth's web-pages mentioned Specimen-Quality.

I have a copy (Web Page) of the 2008 carded Koala from Perth's web-site which says under the title, PRODUCT INFORMATION:

Specimen Quality 99.9% Pure Silver

The highly-appealing second Silver Koala is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in specimen quality.

I've physically checked today, the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011and 2012 carded coins, none are specimen or say specimen on the actual card.

I'm a huge fan of this set too so it is really annoying to see all the issues/problems that the Mint has created with it.

RAM did the same shit in 2007 making the silver roos out of cu/ni and thinking collectors wouldn't mind
They were forced to mint some silver ones by the retailers after the backlash

Now it is PM turn
