I've heard gold can be bought easily over the counter in Switzerland just from bank outlets (UBS and Credit Suisse). I was wondering if anyone has had an experience doing this as I will be in Switzerland for 2 days in August and I thought it might be neat to pick up a small swiss gold bar while I'm there. I'm wondering do you need an account with the bank? Do you need to place an order (I've heard for small bars they usually have stock right there)? Do you need ID? Are the premiums high? Can you pay cash or credit card?
I'm not a huge gold bar collector in fact I've only got 2 gold bars as I am usually more into coins, however I still think this would be cool as I've been eyeing off the Swiss kinebars for a while now.
Thanks for any help you can give.
