BITCON... WHY its totally FLAWED

Warning: If you have funds at BTC-e you should pull them out. If you're using BTC-e for virtual currency exchange you should pull out anything over what you're willing to lose. If you still feel compelled to use this exchange you should disable all scripting languages in your browser. A lot of people are finding their wallet balances empty over there as a result of either MySQL injections and/or imgur hosted & web link based browser cache dumps or java zero-day exploits in the trollbox. The site coding is garbage, avoid at all costs.

As for the person earlier that asked if you can actually buy anything with a fraction of a BTC ... I mentioned previously that I bought a killer 3.0lb batch of baklava Monday morning when bitcoins were trading at around 188USD.

Here is the payment (0.1637 BTC, or about $30 total USD at that time):

I'd like to back this up too, I've been warning all my buyers not to transfer anything to BTC-E and have stopped using it myself.

The support page is flooded with people having been scammed, apparently withdrawls (even in BTC) aren't getting processed either.

Seems like the Russians may be running a ponzi scheme of sorts there with the account pool, and the plunge has caught them with their pants down.

... you know, since it's a worthless chain letter/ponzi/tulip bulbs backed by nothing and you can't buy anything but drugs with it. Well ... the baklava should be on Silk Road. This shit is more addictive than crack!

My housemate is an IT guy & now it's all over the news it's easier to get him to look into the technical side of it ;)

Look, this stuff could crash to zero tomorrow. Mt Gox is a huge black eye on Bitcoin (which is sad, since the underlying network and fundamentals are sound). Getting money into and out of the system will be its undoing unless somebody gets their act together and brings professional tools to the market (Western Union and MasterCard have acknowledged being interested in virtual currencies). But the fact is the tech is here and the genie isn't going back into the bottle. Whether it's Bitcoin or Litecoin or FEDcoin, we'll be using an online-only proxy of cash in 10 years, and think nothing of it like when we all stopped writing hand written letters and moved to email.

Bitcoin is the first mover. If it's not a complete failure due to reasons yet unknown, government(s) intervention, or the incompetence of Mt Gox, I think we're going to see many more collapses and bubbles while the market figures out exactly what is it really worth? 1 Billion? 100 Billion? 10 Trillion? Nobody knows.

I figure the most I can lose is 100% of my investment (and I'm already playing with house money). The most I can gain is ... ?

I'll take those odds everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
