Back Dated 1oz Kookaburras.....the flood has commenced!

A couple of months ago large numbers of the 1992 1oz Kookaburras entered the market. Confusion initially reined.... where were they coming from? Is the Perth Mint restriking these coins? Answer of course was yes, the 1oz 1992 Kookaburras were being restruck up to their maxmum mintage of 300,000. Would they do the same for the other year Kookaburras as well?!?!

Now bullionbourse have in boxes of 100's in the round capsules (a giveaway they are restrikes) for the years 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2007.

Seems certain now that every year that didnt reach 300,000 minted will be minted up to their 300,000 limits.
 
must mean silver is becoming more popular with people and they are starting to realise plastic banks are ripping them off, so in a way its a good sign.

but me no buy old years re mints just because of the poor bugga's who just watched their low mintage coins goooo down in value so from 2013 onwards i can buy.
 
...been advertised on the forum from a number of sponsors now for about 10 days - the discussion on them is buried in the "1992 Kookaburras" thread.
 
Yeah i have been following this closely as I never bought kooks before but always loved the design. Recently when silver dipped i picked up the 1992,93,94,95,96,97&98 for $38/each with the exception of the 92 i paid $34.

I always loved the design with the kook on the coin and like Australian perth mint coins as long as they do not have any coloring or are not privy coins but could never get myself to buy them due to the crazy premium. For the premium before the remint most kooks were $45-$75...at that price id buy pandas all day long as i like these better.

but yeah its a drag for those who purchased these a while back with a huge premium and with spot around $38-$40.

once these are done being re-minted i think the premium will come back.
 
Perth has just broke it off in the rear of collectors who paid any premium on Kooks over the last 10 years.
Alienating your loyal customer base is no way to do business IMO.
This smacks of the same ethics that is driving the world's financial crisis.
I'm dumping my almost completed set of Kooks and never buying another Perth product.
 
Did the Perth Mint ever say they couldn't make the full mintage number?
I know the early Kookaburras (like the early Lunars) were not popular
when first released. I recall Kooks and silver Lunars at about $10
at APMEX, all you wanted. That's when you should have bought them, low premiums
at a low spot price.
I never cared about mintage but only price and design.
I only buy Perth Mint stuff over other bullion coins out of boredom.
Like with women I need something new every once and awhile.
I bough a few early dates Kooks this month, I simply like birds.
I have recorded a APMEX.com March 2007 buy:
20 Australia 1999 1 oz 1999 Lunar Rabbits @$20.26/$405.20
10 Australia 1991 1 oz Kookaburras @$20.22/$202.20
I forget what spot was then, about $18 I think.
I don't think I mind the reminted Kooks.
If they start reminting early Lunars I might...get a little pissed.
 
So one the tidal wave is over, will every Kook be 'equal value' as the mintages have now been met?

So a 1992 is worth the same as a 2002?

Perhaps the PM want the big dollar moving back to there 'limited stike' stuff instead of the secondary market as with Dragon's and older bullion?
 
There's going to be nowhere near as many restrike Kookaburras in the market as the recent Kookaburras - 08, 09 and 10 had 300,000 sold out, 11 & 12 had 500,000 sold out, and 2013 will be a million Kookaburras, and given that the 2011 half million sold out in something like 10 weeks, the 2013 is likely to sell out before the end of January 2013.

Now look at the maximum possible number of restrikes of these earlier Kookaburras - the 1991 will be as low as ~15,000 once it's restruck (which presumably will happen sooner than later). Compare 15,000 shiny Kooks to 1 million shiny Kooks - I know which one I would buy.
 
Someone posted on another board that the Kookaburra series would end after the 25th coin. I have not previously read anything about the kook series ending. Doesn't make any sense that the PM is selling 500,000 kooks a year and would consider ending the series.
 
Really? The end of the kookaburras huh? Does that mean it's time for the koalas to shine? :)

Does not sound like the perthmint to me... they have a habit of flogging the horse until it's nothing but powdered bones. Still a lot of life in the horse kookaburras yet
 
Have not heard anything about Kookaburras only being a 25 year series. Can check this though.
 
Perth Mint must be Fekking bored to bother... look at all the effort for just a few coins and all the different dies and farking around.. just decrease the price of the koalas FFS and sell more...

Honestly what a waste of time and bad decision.. IMO a better strategy would be to focus on the future rather than go back to the future into the past and SCREWING with it,

I propose they focus on selling more through price strategy... ie: lower it to increase demand- produce something near spot so that you can focus on selling more.. not crapping where you eat and screwing collectors who paid through the nose chasing the vintage Kooks. I cant imagine the profits would be high on the Kooks.. especially when the mint complains about not having enough production capability.

Does anyone know how many kooks you would need to ask the PM for to actually get a restrike? I was looking for a 2004 kook and came across Jaggards and basically it stated you could get a special order for 2004 kooks but you needed to order 2500 of them. Any information if that's the number needed to get a restrike?
 
Yep, 2500 - but they like you to get more :)

I imagine once the 2013 sells out there will be another Kook rush on.
