Australian budget 2026 CGT implications

If you believe the recent budget is tough imagine what life will be like with a digital AU dollar. Technically that could be done with little effort by the PTB, as every note is already uniquely numbered and it would not be difficult to add qr codes to coins
(and notes).

To the above add the following from FOX news this morning.

FOX reporter in Beijing covering President Trump visit. Chinese driver parked illegally for 20 minutes receives text message with a US$40 fine from local enforcement authority.

Everything is being recorded one way or another.

For convenience i'll run with this:

The wealthy get a major benefit which comes at the expense of around 90% of the population because those capable of leveraging their wealth using equity simply fuel asset bubbles across all markets.

My position is not communist, it's based on a sound free-market principle. Something that the introduction of the CGT discount was meant to assist, but failed.

I understand you’re a follower and understand it’s difficult to have independent, alternative thinking. It’s not easy when everyone around you has the same thought process,

Everyone has to start from somewhere, you can’t leverage wealth if you don’t have it start with, This even apples before CGT and NG was introduced, hard to believe right?
How did they do it? you can’t leverage what you don’t have.
I believe spending habits and liabilities kept to a bear minimum.
Free market eh?
We’ve have never ever had a free market.

It’s hard to accept failure when your a follower, Shiney. Your definitely not alone. It’s hard to get ahead when you follow the wrong crowd.it’s hard for anyone when they think they know but keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
It’s easier to blame others for your hardship
It’s a horrible mindset to be in, all I can suggest is you need to change asap.

The government's policy is an attempt to suck the air out of the housing market in an attempt to restore affordability and housing as a place to live, rather than a means for the wealthy to stick their hand out for freebies.

So the first home owner grant didn’t work
The rent to buy scheme didn’t work
No stamp duty first home owner didn’t work
Low internet rates didn’t work
Flood the country with migrants didn’t work
Transition to green energy to halve electricity didn’t work.
Keeping inflation at a 2% didn’t work
Now raising interest rates ain’t working
Government being the largest employer both directly and indirectly
The list goes on and on
Now let’s blame and hit the middle class…..that will work
The best indicator of future performance is the result of the past performance.
The only benefit you will get Shiney is a very short feel good moment before reality kicks in and then you’ll get another opportunity blame someone else

Sigh, taxes exist to control the amount of money circulating in the economy by attempting to influence behaviour.

None of the other schemes worked because first home buyers can't compete with wealthy IP owners trying to make a $ out of houses that other people live in and then they cry foul when the government pulls the plug on free money.

My heart bleeds for them. No it doesn't. Entitled cunts.

I thought I would never own a home let alone retire early. It wasn’t till I understood what I had to do to achieve the goal.

Since you like to write, you should start a FIRE blog site like MrMoneyMustache and tell everyone else how to achieve what you did.
Could become a lucrative source of income.

Reserve bank has looked into the idea of creating a retail CDBC (Central Bank Digital Currency) but have said it is not necessary since Australia already has the Osko instant payments system. If it was done it would be completely electronic money similar to crypto - no notes or coins.
China has a digital Yuan - operated by the banks but controlled by the govt.

Fuck off. Young Australians didn't have to build wealth in the share market before buying their own homes when I was young.

You just saved. We had a $10 000 deposit for our first home saved over 5 years while renting and raising 2 kids. No handouts from mum or dad and no handouts from the government in the form of first home buyers, baby bonuses or months of paid maternity leave.

Previous governments have fkd most of us all over and this is the first government that has got the balls to break the wheel. And I didn't even vote for them.

The housing investment industry in their fancy suits is running a scare campaign in order to protect their own arses.

Stop crying. You're in your 50's and you're a self-funded retiree. If it's going to be that tough for you then go back to work.

Our first house we payed $93 000 for when I was 34. 30 years later the median house price in the same town I live is something like $800 000.

You need to be earning a combined income of over $270K a year now in relative terms to be on equal footing and that's not even factoring in the increased cost of childcare which was dirt cheap compared to wages nor the increased cost of everyday living expenses.

@betterinvestmentthanshare, if you need a job to help towards your first class airfares to Europe this summer we can probably offer you maybe 8 hours a week, but you'll have to move to Qld, be willing to travel daily to an island and do what you're told.

Slip me your resume in my inbox and I may get time to look at it.

Again it’s your crowd mentality and assumptions that’s letting you down and getting you angry.
You said it yourself, no capacity for critical thinking, very ridged thinking, unable to step outside self imposed boundaries, by the book type of guy, everything is either black or white. Unable to challenge your reality let alone change it.
Definition of Insanity
BUT
There’s always a first time chance of a penny drop moment to get the ball rolling towards a new direction. I still have high hopes for you Shiney
And thanks for the offer, but Russell Island isn’t on the bucket list
