Personally I think the picture at least of the opal koala is kind of ugly, I am also not a big fan of chip inlay . I would suspect this will not be the next red back spider but what do I know , when those were released I thought the same think and hated the colored coins back then , since they have grown on me. What I cant believe is the variety of coins these days some of the old school coin collectors must be shaking their heads in disbelief, so we have coins now with paint, enamel, cut gemstones, inlay stones, rough stones in plastic compartments , pearls, gold nuggets, set stones and beads, scented coins, gold plated gilded coins ect. what will be next? maybe a silver coin with a built in stash compartment and a fold out one hitter for the ron paul folks out there?????
 
I think that if any coin is a potential to be a numismatic hit, it is this one as I think having opal inlaid is way more innovative and opal is quite a unique stone to Australia as compared to the numerous "painted" picture coins.

I completely agree, a low mintage, first of series coin with what looks to be an Australian black opal inset should smoke a painted coin.

The Red Back was the first issue of the Deadly and Dangerous series in 2006 with a mintage of 5,000. Does anyone know what the release price was? It sold out in 2006 (how soon?) and was quickly selling for $200. As the other coins in the series were released the price has reached reported highs of around $1500 in 2011.

I just got one from a dealer, under the light, it looks so dark, really NOT that impressed

They're supposed to be a scene at night under the moonlight, that's the idea of the LED light in the case to show the beauty of sparkling opals... they could easily be turned into a jewellery piece !
I think they will fast become a collector's item, for being the first of a Series, like the Redback and the Tassie Tiger.
Get them cheap while you can...

May just be the coin you got under light mine looks really nice I sold one that was dark though I suppose that's the variety in minerals

That's what I like from this set since opals are unique in color, I am hoping that each would look slightly different from each other thus you would havea unique piece. I wonder what has more premium brighter or darker ones?
 
I'm very curious if the whole series is going to be very popular & expensive like the first coin Opal Koala. Or it depends how the next coins is going to look like. So far every week the price is going up & up.
I only bought 1 of them at the original price.

all sold mate haha im trying to get more next week but it dosnt look too good
 
Anyone here get their Koala's from Coin Club yet? Ordered mine the minute they were released, have been charged for them but as yet no coins. Would hate to imply that because I paid $129 for them and now they are selling them for $229 that they may not honour that order.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, Coin Club have just replied to my email, coins are on their way :D
