I imagine there is going to be a lot of dragons slabbed, judging by the high numbers of slabbed pandas for recent years. For that reason, I'm not going to, also because it's a pain in the arse getting NCS and NGC to respond to emails from Australia from my experience. A total pain in the arse.

As far as counterfeiting goes, you buy from a reputable source, when you sell you know you've got the genuine article.

The 2012 Chinese dragon is amazingly overpriced, I am buying underpriced stuff for now and steering clear of them.

If you're really wanting a Chinese dragon check out the 1988 and 2000 dragons, both have more significance (cultural wise) than the 2012 unless the world ends in 2012 :P

Also they are not much more expensive than the 2012. Good buying imo.
 
I just received my first 2012 Chinese Lunar Dragon out of the others I have purchased (Australian & Canadian) I do favor this one much more and a mintage of 60,000 appeals to me. I can honestly say the pictures of this coin do not afford it much justice but I'm fairly impressed holding it.

I cannot give any advice from an investor's point of view because that's not my game but from a collector's point of view I'm not too disappointed in the price and it's a decent addition to the dragon collection, of course if I could have gotten it for $100 I would not be disappointed at all ! :D

On a side note I finally took the time and replied back to all of the members who graciously left me positive feedback for the group buy and reciprocated with positive feedback as well. I'm a serious procrastinator but I did get it done :)
 
Yeah I'll probably buy ONE flowered/plum blossom dragon, depending on funds, as both a collector and investor :P. I mean, it's not gonna do any worse than that crappy gilded dragon I'm holding by Perth Mint.

Been spending a bit too heavily on Pandas hmMm, might have to sell more stuff.

Not going to bother with the fan shaped though, since that requires effort to make a set and I'd rather start from 2000 if I was going to make a set.

I bought one flower shaped 1 oz silver coin from Xu Hong on Feebay.
I agree with a lot of members, that the price is way too expensive for this coin.
But in my opinion they sell out soon, and the price will go up.

Does anyone know when "2012 Year of the Dragon 1 oz silver Pitcairn Islands" comes out.
I know that New Zealand Mint will sell them on their website.
 
I've noticed a couple of comments saying that the PRC Lunars are overpriced or too expensive. In order for something to be overpriced or too expensive it must be priced way more than an identical or even comparable product. Is the 2006 10 kilogram Rat in Au that recently sold for $1,892,744 incl fees overpriced. What about those fugly Andean cats?

So, what similar product are they overpriced compared to? And please give reasons not just a list of other lunars produced by other mints of the world. :)

For example:

The Chinese Lunar 2000 Dragon fan shape can be had for < $400.

The 2012 Chinese Lunar fan shape Dragon is almost $300 already.

That is overpriced. Or the 2000 is underpriced.

Expensive or not is a completely different thing, it comes down to opinion. To a rich man, $300 is nothing. To a poor man, $300 is expensive.

Actually to me, anything over $5 is expensive because I'm that poor :p

Overpriced != expensive, expensive != overpriced.

2012 fan shaped dragoon $189* at pandaamerica, wabbit $279!!! 2010 pussy cat not available, likewise the cow and rodent, while the piggy is $199.

2000 lunar dragon fan shaped is BU not proof by the way, don't know if that makes a difference.

Seems the market prices for both the fan and rounds in Ag have dropped recently, flowers have stayed the same
 
Price drops on alot of items... Kilo now roughly 800 cheaper and 2 coin flower set I was thinking about getting 400 cheaper than yesterday... Nice ;)

You won't ever get the prices unless you know the dealers or someone who works inside the mint.

Anyway just bought mines from Xu Hong for ~$265 or so, depends on FX. Thought I'd do it now while it's still over parity.

Time to wait a month ;)
