The cheapest they will ever go would be ~$200, not very likely to see that though this being the dragon and all.

Of the previous years, the rabbit is currently the cheapest around $190.

I believe they upped the release retail prices so anything below $200 is unrealistic imho.

Whether or not you think it's worth that much is another issue entirely :)

Traditionally Lunars have always been expensive in China, unlike Pandas which get released at spot price + X.
 
The 1oz plain silver/gold round coin/fan looks alright. Almost the same as the dragon on the pamp bars. The rest are average. The coloured ones look really bad. Shocking really.
Just shows the Perth mint did extremely well with all there coins. I'd choose the P/Mint anyday over the China coins leaving out the Pandas of course. Our coloured coins smash these ones for 6.I even prefer the baby one i got. The plain 1oz round coins finish a close 2nd to our ones too IMHO. I would consider these but that would be it.

Thanks scorp, good to have differing opinions.

Personally, I don't give a rats or a drags what they look like, they are an investment for me. It's like if I was buying an investment property, I would choose a lowset brick, 4 bed ensuite etc etc iin a boring middle class suburb close to schools and shopping centres and a bus or train. Not something I'd like to live in personally, prefer a shed or a highset lightweight construction near the beach - BUT - it's an investment. Buy what is popular and sought after.

Apologies to anyone living in a lowset, 4 bed ....... ;)
 
The plum blossom coin with 60k mintage looks to be a much better buy than the round dragon with 200k mintage.

Both are proof and price range around 250-260 on Xu Hong's store.

Opinions?
 
Yep, going the blossom in preference to the round. Interestingly, this year marks the first year that a 1 oz dragon in the flower shape has been released.

According to Pricepedia:

Year 2000 Dragoooon ask price in PRC
1 oz Round: USD660
2/3 oz flower: USD860

Year 2012 Dragoooon from Xu Hong
1 oz round: AUD255
1 oz flower: AUD264

So, 1/3 an oz more silver, less mintage, $11 more currently, far greater potential.

Forgot to mention, flower tiger, 1 oz $284 from Xu Hong AND 2011 fan shaped wabbit from Pandaamerica more expensive than 2012 dragoooon from Xu Hong.

BTW, fish or yennus, is Xu Hong's family name Xu or Hong?

Agree. For roughly the same price, would assume that the flower shape with it's lower mintage (60,00 versus 200,000), would be a better bet. The 2009 flower Ox are going for over $600 on ebay, not sure why that particualar year seems to be so sought after.

I like most recent chinese coins, such beautiful artwork on them and the detail is fabulous - but these new silver coloured dragons, dam ugly if you ask me.

I agree that the colored dragon is ugly as shit. There are pretty colored Chinese coins but I dare not dabble in them as I know too little.

Gonna observe the market a bit (hoping other sellers come along) and if it looks good (cheap) I'll buy 10 or something :P

Won't be cheap from Pandaamerica but I'm hoping some other sellers will push down the prices a bit giving Xu Hong some competition...

Or alternatively I might prod around Hong Kong see if there's any suppliers :]

*crosses fingers for these guys to list up dragon at cheap price! Their 100th Anniversary of 1911 Revolution silver coin is only $110 AU, bloody cheap compared to Xu!

Just wondering, for those that bought from Xu Hong outside of ebay, what % of discount can you expect? Also what method of payment do you do? Thanks!

Sorry but I amiably disagree

IMO The Chinese Dragon beats the Perth Dragon by light years and will sell out 10 times faster for higher prices. The Chinese dragon doesn't have old ladies on it automatic loss right there for the Perth :D

I do agree with you that its appearance is not very appealing (nor is the Perth dragon) yet many will purchase it for different reasons. Investors will buy it for profit in only a few years, collectors such as me will just buy it for the collection.

I was not a fan of the Perth Dragon but purchased a few as well as the flower/plum shaped Canadian Dragon and will pick up a few varieties of the Chinese Dragons.

As I said I do agree that none of the 2012 dragons have very appealing designs which surprisingly has been the sentiment of many people.

Then again, it's all about what pleases the individual ... what one person loves another may hate.

Just waiting for it to arrive now ! :)

There will/are a number of good sources, but it depends on the price. At the moment I've only seen them on http://myworld.ebay.com.au/hangzhouhuayinshoucangpin/ this is MrXu that is previously referred to. He is a good source. I think Pandaamerica will be more expensive than him judging by the price of their 2011 fan shaped wabbit compared to his 2012 fan shaped dragoooon. Factor in free shipping as well.
