I think the people that bought them are the optimistic people and the ones who caught the wave to late tend to be the pessimists... I only bought one and that's all I was wanted to gamble on. It's a gamble and I bet 89.00 on the skull!

This could take years to play out. We only have current info & a very brief history to base our decisions. Who knows what the future might bring, good or bad. It will only become more clear in hindsight.

If the artist were smart, they'd have done a royalty deal based on revenue. :D

10 more just sold, $129 thru $149 USD..

I do think it is wild that all of use are buying a coin that we think is going to be cool based on a sketch. I'm just glad I got onboard at 89, and not 149.00. I don't think I'm crazy enough to take that kind of a gamble without seeing the actual coin. It's one thing to pay 279.00 for the Secret Pena coin. I saw the actual detail, and was quite impressed with the technology used. But, this coin is based off of a sketch, and most, if not all are hoping we get something half way decent. Or better than half way decent. Here's to hoping. LOL. At least no one paid 750.00...yet. I'll be a seller at 750.00. LOL.

Yes, when I saw the video for the Pena Palace coin, it went on my want list right away.

The exquisite Pena Palace coin is in a whole different league than the Skulls coin. That accounts for the price difference. The Pena Palace is finer than any of the Tiffany Art coins in my opinion...and I really like the Tiffany Art coins. And I do like the Skulls coin...just that it's not meant to be anywhere near the same quality as the Pena Palace coin. Comparing the Pena Palace coin and the Skulls coin is like comparing:

Haha.:) Good one.:)

Well Pena is "selling" on FirstCoinCompany for around 270$ and Skulls for 750$. Paying 750$ for a "drawing" of the coin is insane...:)
It's not all about the design, it's also the sound (the motor). :P:P

You make a good point Stark, the Pena Palace at this time is a great bargain then, in comparison.

I didn't get any of the proofs and although my finger hovered over the Brilliant Uncirculated once or twice I didn't take the plunge.

I hope the coin does well but it is a goat skull and part of a lunar calendar and neither particularly interests me, the design is really nice and the price was decent and if a proof had been available I would probably have picked one up.

Having said that, I think it is a great step forward for the hobby.

In the past you had to have a skilled engraver who was also an artist, a ton of equipment to change a large plaster master into a smaller metal die and access to world leaders and a mint, not to mention someone who was rich to bankroll the whole thing.

Now anyone who is artistic or creative can put their own designs up, they don't have to work to a client's brief, they don't have to confine themselves to their particular area of expertise, such as tattooing people. They don't have to have a ton of money upfront, they can pre sell the items and use that money to cover the costs. They can pick and chose between any number of mints and now computers can cut the dies saving time.

I think the days of people wanting to produce their own rounds and being told that you have to make 1000's and charge really high prices are on the way out.

If this keeps up you will be able to send a photo or a sketch of what you want made and get half a dozen sent back the next day.

So if the proof at $20 over BU was a no-brainer, at what point is the BU a no-brainer?

Proof has sold for $149 now, and only making brief appearances. BU is still sitting at $70, and could probably grab as many as you want for now.

Obviously for a good chunk of the allocation, we'll never know what is selling for what, and when.

But what we do know so far is that at the time of this writing, 80 proofs have been sold via eBay, while 100 BU's (eBay + FCC) have been sold.

I think the wording of this is important:

Mintages limited to only:
500 PROOF / 2000 BU

There's no clarification or guarantee that all 500 & all 2K will be minted. And there's no guarantee that these will continue to catch fire like they have. There's always the risk of these flaming out at some point.

Due to the apparent relative popularity & higher price of the proofs, who's to say SM won't go ahead & mint all 500 proofs -- but only mint 500 of the BU's due to lesser demand?

Instead of a 1:4 ratio, we're now looking at a 1:1. And even at 1K BU's, still only a 1:2 ratio.

Furthermore, and this has been brought up by myself & others, who's to say the proof won't look as good as the BU? I'm sure the proof production process can be a little more tricky than minting BU's. And if you're looking further down the road, BU's can tone differently than proofs -- and people sometimes pay up some big bucks for really cool toning.

Taking the above into account, which is always a possibility, suddenly we're looking at the potential for the proofs' price to plummet in relative terms to the BU's sky-rocketing price. We've all seen how quickly the price of the proofs can increase.

Not saying it will most likely happen, but to keep an open mind that it could, and perhaps hedge accordingly, if you haven't already.

10 more available (at $149 US) if anyone here still wants to get in on the first 100 sold...maybe you will be lucky 77!...:

Wha.... 80% under market pricing (given $750 price tag at FCC)? How are these still available?! :P

I am pretty tempted to grab another 5 BU to match my proofs, but bit of a risk until we see how the coin turns out.

Yeah, I'm passing on the addition to the stack. If I saw one in hand or on video, the decision is a bit easier. But to continue buying on the hype of the concept, for me, just isn't a wise move. It could prove to be a home run, a dud or somewhere in the middle. If a home run, that monkey skull will be eagerly watched for next year, and I wonder if they jack the price out of the gate...I'll be a walker and happily sell my 4. LOL. As they say in real estate, there is a deal of a life time, every week.
