I'm finding minted Southern Cross bars in their sealed plastic are doing well. My thought is the sealing is at least as effective as keeping a coin in a good quality capsule.
I'm with Currawong. Glad I established my strategy in the time frame which I think will keep working as silver rises. I wouldn't like to be making some of the pre strategy decisions I made as a newbie in the present market.
Yes, well, I have obviously missed the bus on gold. I've been buying a regular weekly amount of silver though for a while and am doing well on that. If only I could have afforded to buy gokd on the same basis...... Makes me think of tge the SAS motto "Who Dares Wins" ................!
I had the same question as a newbie Sydney stacker and ended up with Bullion List locally and Gold Stackers and Perth Bullion remote ordering for anything Bullion List didn't have. It has been said elsewhere that you can't go far wrong with the site sponsors and my experience has endorsed this.
It's been said before here that new stackers often run around buying everything they can get their hands on and with later knowledge later realise they could have purchased better. I was advised early to settle on a particular strategy and stick to it and it has done me well. Al the same it's...
Interesting. I try to buy only the one definitive coin per mint (ASE, Britannia, Maple etc) . Timewise then, Australia's definitive coin would be the kook . The koala and kanga then are additional even though the kanga has been cited as being intended to be Australia's ASE/Britannia /Maple type...
I must be a boring stacker. I watch prices and exchange rates go up and down like a toilet seat and all the discussion and always conclude that my strategy of buying a set amount each week is the best i can do. So today I bought the same as I did last Tuesday (pay day) and will probably...
When I started on 10 oz bars I settled on the Southern Cross after a bit of research and it's been a good choice. As for buying from Australia I'd think any of the site sponsors would be fine. I've dealt with all of Perth Bullion, Gold Stackers and Bullion List, all good. Never heard of an...

Ok, so if a dealer takes a loss to free up cash to use to make a profit, would he then not restock and avoid those coins that don't sell well? As its RCM coins, maybe they don't sell because customers are avoiding milk spot issues? Will the RCM wonder when dealers stop buying from them?
I can only endorse what fishtaco says. He said as much to me when I was in a similar position to you and it has stood me well. The sooner you settle on a stategy and stick to it the better. Another thing with the bars was to settle on the one type/size. I also have a very good regular supplier...
Interesting how most of these storage, pros and cons of SDB, safes etc threads seem to include the government as much, if not more, a risk than sundry thieves and badies. And we don't vote for thieves and badies. Then again.............
I have had a similar experience. Even though spot and exchange rates sometimes seem to go up and down like a toilet seat, in AUD what I spend has been relatively stable and allowed me to budget for my silver spending. It has also given me a cost averaging effect which I think has worked well.
Maybe the best advice is a bit of each. That decided, and if the premiums are ok, then Copperhead's reasoning on 1/10 for affordability, availability etc seems good. Certainly it would reduce bulk problems with an all silver stack of the same value.
I'm wondering if it is the bottom. In the last few days I've had multiple emails about 'specials' from each of the several internet dealers I used when I was a newbie buying everything from anywhere before I settled on a fixed strategy and a steady local supplier. Why? Are they selling before...
Very interesting. I've settled on a 10oz bars + 1oz coins strategy which is working well for me. I'm thinking I have been remiss in not considering fractionals as featuring here. I'd be interested in views on including fractionals in a stacking strategy. Thanks!
