6. Gold? What gold?

I know this to be true :) I was hoping there might be another place I could regularly swing by to grab a sneaky ounce every now and then, perhaps have a browse of pretty items also. No matter, I'll just sign up for a PO box and hit the trading threads instead!

First post in a while ;) I've recently become a resident of our nation's fair capital and finally got around to checking out the LCS......... :o Maybe I'm just used to the premiums on GP's site, but I was a little bit shocked at their premiums - gold at 9%, silver 50%, and round fiddies close...

Someone's bullshit detector needs calibrating. That's about nine times the amount of gold ever mined in history, if you believe the official estimates. Byproduct, lol.

Can we just put all these non-predictions into a single thread entitled "gold is going to continue recent trend +\- $20"?

I am wondering if there would be any complications with verifying the legality of ownership, or indeed gift status for CGT exemption.

Been lurking the forum during these rangebound last few months, and have consistently derived wry amusement from the number of threads entitled "GOLD COULD HIT [+- $20 from current spot] IN NEXT FEW DAYS"

Scales and a set of vernier calipers? That will find 99% of fakes. It's probably either light or thick. If it passes that, how about using an ultrasonic thickness meter to find the speed of sound through the material? Tungsten and gold are pretty different! Finally drill test? How does a HSS...

It's awesome but I don't think I'd ever buy one. You get just as low a premium on kilobars and they would be much easier to sell. Given a choice, I'd pick a treasure chest full of round fifty cent pirate-silver any day of the week, even at the (slightly) higher premium.

Even if the cost were not prohibitive (which it is), or the moon were a plausible location for a future human colony (which it's not), the moon does not have the geologic history of earth (no plate tectonics, volcanoes nor alluvial features) and therefore no seams of ore or alluvial deposits...

Counterintuitively, as silver (and gold) rises in price, demand increases. You will NEVER have trouble finding a buyer in a full-blown bull market or bubble; the bigger problem is usually finding anything that's for sale. Punters who own nothing want a piece of the action, and many (most?)...

Personally I love the 1966 round 50c pieces - your daughter will be blown away when you tell her how much they are worth! * They look and feel great * Can be had at low premium (10-20%) and at small volumes * High recognition (at least within Australia) * Never heard of them being faked * 80%...

When was the last time you found a round 50c piece in your change?

Lead is 11.3g/cc, silver is 10.5 (so that bar should have been slightly overweight). Gold is 19.3, not even in same ballpark.

Goldpelican is usually pretty good at questions like these...
