So got my hands on (at no cost) a FAKE coloured 1 oz Au 2011 Niue Tasmania Tiger Coin - note it says "Limited Edition" where the real ones say $100 Dollars. (See photo's below)
Anyway seeing its no loss does anyone want any tests conducted, I can put photos/ evidence after each test.

Scales and a set of vernier calipers? That will find 99% of fakes. It's probably either light or thick.

If it passes that, how about using an ultrasonic thickness meter to find the speed of sound through the material? Tungsten and gold are pretty different!

Finally drill test? How does a HSS drill go against a tungsten fake?

OK, to elabarote tests that dont require 20k equipment investment. Im not doing a PMV or an ultrasonic meter test.
Will do scales, weight, diameter, thickness and specific gravity tests tonight.
Will take a drill to it tomorrow and then the Coup de grace to humour spanner will be a grinder to cut it in half.
That work for everyone?

Quick measurements show 40mm diameter and just over 3mm thick

Weighs in at 29.5 grams......enough said

I'd like to know how high the maker will bounce when dropped from a thousand metres.

Id prefer to play forwards, backwards, sideways with them.
At least then we can have a punt and a bit of fun.

For those unfamiliar with this game its where you thwack them upside the head with a shovel and bet which way they fall ;)

The 12 gauge 00 buckshot test, send them fakes back where they belong

Please test the blood pressure of the orginal seller as you shove the fake coin where it belongs

That coin is so ugly... I don't understand why they spent the effort to fake it. Whoever colors a gold coin should be arrested immediately anyway.
