Gold (in AUD) up for 2014

Because I honestly don't understand: what difference will that make? The strength, or otherwise, of the British pound isn't shored up by the fact that London hosts the LBMA. So why will China be 'stronger' if it houses the largest gold exchange? Or, what will that do to the price? The only...

China Sells 100 B of USD Reserves & Buys GOLD!

He is one of the few here that post data rather than anecdotes and the speculative reasoning based on them.

    Thoughts on Germany's "Fed gold"...

Thanks for that link. I could never understand, not being a financier, why he sold the gold at the bottom. I could tell it was deliberate, because he acted in a way as to ensure he got the lowest price possible. I never understood why though. A simpler way would have been to just write off the...

    Thoughts on Germany's "Fed gold"...

I thought Germany had given up on getting it back now. Apparently, it's fine to leave it in New York...

Got a silver quarter in my change at McDonald's today

My son found a Morgan dollar in the yard outside our house. Which is even weirder when you realise we live in England!

    Crypto bullion currency

I, frankly, don't really understand how to use crypto currencies yet. I don't invest in things I don't think I understand, so I won't buy these for now - especially at that mark-up.

TOTAL RESERVES BY COUNTRY - The World Bank

Gordon Brown raided UK pensions years ago, so a precedent has been set.

How do you store your treasure??

I store mine at the bottom of a lake. Not on purpose, mind - it fell off the boat as we were loading it, accident see, and I thought it was too much trouble to go down to get it. Plus, I figure no-one will find it there. All good.

If the govt. added GST on silver bullion, what would be the impact?

That's what I do, living in the UK, where silver is taxed. I have enough in hand for my own purposes, the rest is stored outside the country.

Need some solid advice for a large order.

Pirocco speaks the truth. But, I'd say buying either right now is swimming against the stream. Which is why I am, buying a bit of both, a bit at a time. Pound-cost averaging on the way down with any spare fiat I have. Contrarian-investing, shoe-shine boy / blood in the streets, etc., is the...

Credit Suisse spoke of 1,000 $ gold about 1.5 years ago

Look forward to it. I'm in my accumulation phase, so falling prices is a good thing. Only comes with mild regret that I started a year ago. But I can, to a degree, keep 'doubling down' as the price falls. Pound-cost averaging!

Is a GSR of 70+ a strong reason to avoid gold?

I dollar-cost average and, thus, let the GSR indirectly balance my purchases.

    Dealing with UK VAT

Indeed. Having obtained enough for my immediate needs, I now no longer import silver but buy it in allocated, segregated storage overseas. That avoids VAT until such time as I need to import it -and I may never have to. I could ship it to an overseas address (if I left the country) or sell it...

Russia Is Going On A Gold Reserve Buying Spree To Counteract Sanctions

Quite. It is just a descriptor. But I don't really see why we should see any reversion to the historical mean, or beyond. The 'old' mean reflected a time when silver and gold were monetary metals. Arguably, gold still has a monetary function, but silver does not anywhere I'm aware of.

Switzerland Gold referendum how it will affect gold?

I based my calculations on the premise that their current monetary base is backed by gold to 7.7%, as advertised, and that the reported volume of money is as quoted. of course, if those numbers are inaccurate, the calculations will be too.

Russia Is Going On A Gold Reserve Buying Spree To Counteract Sanctions

Don't know, but I use it to guide the ratio of my purchases. Not my holdings, mind; I don't think I'll start swapping one for the other because I'm unsure now about the validity of the ratio and the perceived fundamentals - in short, I don't see any strong reason why we should have a reversion...

Switzerland Gold referendum how it will affect gold?

Thinking about this... Aloud, as it were... What if, rather than buy the necessary gold in to back it 20%, what if they just raised the price of gold by 12.3%, as measured in ChF? That would mean they could provide a 20% with their current holdings, and it would significantly devalue the ChF...
