This thread is really quite depressing to read, but just so that you really regret what you did I want to let you all know that right after joining silver stackers I decided I was going to go and buy my first Silver coin from the only local dealer here in Cairns, (still the only local dealer as well) $35 bucks for a carded 2002 Kangaroo coin. I was really chuffed and then he went and sold me a 2006 Perth Mint Red Back spider coin with box, case and coa for fifty bucks on my way out of the shop. Please don't hate me, it wasn't my fault.
A fake 1/10 oz Panda coin in Plastic capsule. I tore the seller a new a whole and made sure he lost his other 10k of sales. I keep that coin as a reminder of how greed can interfere with rational decisions because it was cheap and i was fast on the buy. I showed a dealer i knew quite well a couple of days after making a mid range purchase of gold coinsHe looked at it as i explained it was a fake..He then proceeded to offer me a full refund, only problem there... it wasn't his coin so i declined-We both had a laugh over that one
A 10oz bar I bought for about 100 years ago when I first started stacking. It was the first bar I ever bought so has sentimental value. That value cost me another 350 for the same bar in a divorce settlement. So I suppose it now stands me 450!!!
My worst purchase was the Gold I bought last night when spot was significantly down.......and then to wake up this morning and see it went even a bit further down. Just once I'd like to buy at the bottom of a dip.
Bought gold at spot + 4% (when spot was $1692) Payed too high a premium and spot was high to begin with. Gold has to get over $1700 before I can break even on them. Not worried too much as that will happen eventually but it's depressing to see them sitting at a 7% loss in my spreadsheet. It was my first purchase and I just wanted the shiny.
You're not alone, I'm big into the gilded versions too. Pity all the PM ones are around $100 while the Canadian Wildlife Series go for $65. Worst buys were definitely the S2 dragons. A Sydney dealer convinced me of their potential due to "limited" mintage etc. 157% over spot for the 2oz :| Thank Jebus I only got the one.
I'm not going to claim a specific transaction as my worst... BUT... I just VERY RECENTLY have gotten into the idea of stacking silver bullion. After a few days research, I went to town. 10oz bars, Engelhards, American Eagles, etc. Spent probably $2k. Problem is, I got hit on shipping because I would order a bar.... and three days later say, hmmm I'm going to get another one... paying separate shipping on each item :/ I made 90% of my purchases in a week or two with silver in between the $33.50-34.50 range. However, I obtained a few coins for free so my average on approx. 45oz in the last few weeks is still $30/oz. Thank God.
Without exception 50 x 2012 1 Oz Lunar dragons @$60 a pop! Think I got the top of the market on that one Cheers Alfie
what's the worst metal purchase you made? A piece of airplane metal junk (tickets) to bring my in- laws along from O/seas to live with us 25 years ago
