the things i regret are coins that turned out to be cleaned. i learned that if a deal is too good to be true, it is. i now have a lovely isabella quarter and a remarkable barber half that are neither here nor there, that is, not scrap, not high end, and nobody really wants them for any value. the other things were some ounces - they were a random assortment, the cheapest the dealer offered. i was more paranoid at the time so i thought we'd be spending ounces of silver sooner than later. and i looked at my stack and realized i didn't have anything that could ever enter into common currency. anyway, i bet people have similar, and probably more outrageous stories, i'd be interested to hear!
No such thing as a bad metal purchase... unless it's irradiated steel... As long as people are happy to trade worthless slips of funny coloured plastic for precious metals, I'm happy!!!!
Some fancy schmancy numismatic purchase(s) when i was feeling confident looking at my bank balance. The premiums threw out my spreadsheet calcs in a big way.
The 100's of ounces of bullion bars I've got when I first started, wish I'd bought coins. Never again. Will sell the lot into strength next year I hope!
Nothing wrong with bars - consider them your bedrock... one that is sinking at the moment like the leaning Tower of Pisa, but a bedrock none the less. You can build better cities from bars than you can with coins and bars mean you have more profits for when the price rockets back up.
All the coins i bought when i first started stacking. If id of waited a few weeks i could of got them for cheaper since the spot price fell. oh well. also some random world coins which contained some silver, ill probably have a hard time getting rid of them when its time to sell after watching nicwinner try to offload some recently. and some pandas that im having a bit of a hard time offloading atm. oh well, no use in looking back in regret. Im sure one day ill be able to sell them for more than i bought them for hopefully. edit: also a set of series 1 lunars. If id used that money to instead buy series 2 dragons like i was originally planning i could of doubled my money or close to it. Now the sets dropped in price a bit, haha.
I blew $600+ on a roll of 20 ASEs ($30 each), made an error in my excel spreadsheet! Silver was at $15 at the time, I hid them so I wouldn't have to look at them I used to bid up to spot price on eBay for everything, and I used to win a lot of auctions. Some ASEs came up so I thought I would throw a bid on, I was putting on about 100 or so bids a week and winning maybe 5-10 so I didn't pay it any attention. It seemed a lot but I figured it was pure silver and there were 20 of them (I was used to junk post 45 pre dec, small lots at a time) Anyway, instead of multiplying the wieght (20 troy oz) by the spot price ($15) I multiplied it by the cell next door, the conversion factor for troy ounces into grams (31.1) My winning streak was over and the spreadsheet showed negative for well over a year, no matter how many good trades I made, nothing could wipe out $300 of wasted money. Still not a big fan of ASEs.
Apparently d&d box jellyfish, Downies had them for $100 at the brisbane anda. Next year they will probably give them away if you buy a pen. i thought it was a good looking coin so got 2 at release. Wish i had that mindset in '06 with the spider.
I sent one over to Nugget, who was going to do an expose' vid on 999mills and other junk. He didn't do the vid, so I got stooged twice  (jks nug )
I have all that fake crap in front of me now ,just been lazy. I need pics of good fake coins & the real thing ,so I can put a slideshow together And maybe get CK to do a voice over .I'll put out a call for photos of fakes later tonight .
