Really nice looking coin...possibly the best looking mineral encased high relief architecture coin of all series to date. Maybe the closest rival is the Taj Mahal but I have seen no high quality video of that coin to compare to the video of the Pena Palace. .
The agate & the price are a deal-breaker for me.. I suspect that holds true for many would-be buyers. Otherwise, it is pretty darn cool. You guys chose well.
I prefer my coins to be unmolested by foreign objects like that.. I don't believe I'm alone in that, either.
what is the agate? That little foam piece? Yeah, I opened my capsule up to do a video (which I will post a little later), and was going to remove that foam, but there looked like there was too much space in the capsule. I might have to hurry and get this one graded. although, I'm sure that foreign object may have done some light microscopic damage, IMHO. Funny, I had mine for sale for 239.00 an not a single buyer. No longer for sale. im keeping it. But, I didn't have the kahoonas to put it for a .99 auction (Gatito - lol). Although, thanks to you, Gattito, I sold my last lunar skull for 205. Sold all 4 of mine for an everage price of 215'ish. Not a bad return for a n 89.00 investment per coin. Oh, on the other hand, those canidian superman gold coins. Those were the worst investment I've made to date over the last 4 years. I promised myself I'd never buy Canadian. I did this one time, and boy did it come back to bite me in the arse. Oh well, I think things pretty much even themselves out with the winner of the goat, and the major loser of the superman gold coins (this time I will hold true to my promise - never a candian coin - lol).
Hey Barsenault, the agate is the naturally colorful mineral in the window. I suppose since no two agate pieces look the same, each Pena coin (each mineral coin for that matter) is unique. I still find it bizarre that some stackers / coin buyers will claim that a 2 oz pure silver coin they just happen to not like some aspect of is too expensive and yet they will readily pay the same amount of money for another subjectively less appealing 2 oz pure silver coin and convince them self that it's not too expensive. I mean...wow, talk about brains not working right! (I am not saying this is you Gatito, but what you'd written reminds me of people who do think like that) .
lol. ah, got it. yeah, I'm not like super wow'd by that either. but I get it. it adds to it's uniqueness. I'll be putting a video up shortly.
So you bought at $274, and sell it for $249 - 10% Paypal/Ebay fee (14% if you have no store), and shipping cost, why would you do that?
I'm nuts. Dccpa taught me how to burn cash. LOL. I had my reasons. But those reasons changed. It gets put into the treasure box!
If it were mine, and I owned just one, I'd keep it. And for those into that sort of thing, I'd get it slabbed, too. Saw that, congrats! You could have squeezed out a bit more these days, but you got "coin-blocked" by others & their silly Buy-It-Now's which puts a cap on pricing.. Let 'em float, people! Not sure if you'd be interested in this one, but see the title of this thread.. http://forums.silverstackers.com/to...dian-coin-that-i-m-really-impressed-with.html Pictures don't do it justice, IMO. Anyway, Pena.. Why am I getting more interested in this one?? LOL
Video of the SECRETS OF PENA. I know some will be horrified over using my bare hands to hold the coin. Oh well. . Oh and another no, no. I opened the capsule. LOL. I did it for the purity of the video...even at the expense of air getting inside. I wanted you to have a naked view.
The capsule isn't airtight though, is it? We all had to open the capsule to get the foam padding out.
Wouldn't cotton gloves be better? Or are you suggesting the gloves are for something else??? _____
I knew that was coming.. I prefer (powder-free) nitrile over cotton. One-time use, no cotton bits & pieces to leave behind, and no cotton to soak up & transfer dirt & grease. Talking about using with coins, BTW, heh..
I have cotton gloves and on some coins, I get little pieces of cotton fuzz in the capsule I noticed on my ATB 5 oz. To fit these in the APMEX Display Case, you have to swap out the stock air-tite, to a Z10 to make them fit correctly.
Received my Pena today.... Seeing is believing this coin is just GREAT!!! 1) Not sure what to do with the "cloth-type" material inserted in the capsule to protect the coin during shipping? Can i just leave it there for long term storage? (Not sure how to post pictures here...) 2) With 688 pieces minted, and the ebay price trend.... tempted to get one more at lower price...
The capsule is more than likely inert but the cloth may not be...depending on what material it's made from would be the criteria for leaving or removing it. .
