    I have a really cruel solution :D
Cut all gov payments & fend for your self's .
    Work it out
    Or stop breathing

About as subtle as a sledge hammer to crack an egg :p

with utility prices in a bubble and bank interest rates as low as they are i would say most people need more money than they are presently getting, be they waged or on centrelink benefits (age pension, dsp, newstart, students, single mums etc)

taxpayers should never whine, because the money given to people in need gets spent in the economy

i would say there are very few people these days who simply treat their benefits as a handout, for nothing, of course, if they do that is their free choice, bust most, you would find, would be delighted not to be in such a situation if that were the case, and those who dont think that way just havent woken up yet and realised that, to get anywhere in life, you have to put in some effort

    That's right lol
It's kind of a stimulus that rakes in gst while feeding the economy.
    And it cuts down crime.

I was hoping to encourage a wider range of discussion. If it was just aged pension, that would probably narrow it down quite a bit. Now, if we "throw in single teen age mothers", we have a lot more scope.

Where do you go to see the leeches from Toorak claiming their negative gearing deductions and family trust distributions?

Maybe everyone should be on benefits then... as the money would get spent in the economy.

It's one thing to justify welfare payments on a basis of caring for the needy, its another altogether to claim that it is an economic achievement. A bridge too far indeed.

:p I am, but just pointing out how easy it is to pay out on "bludgers" at the bottom of society when there are just as many at the top.

For what its worth, I do think social welfare is one of the greatest economic achievements and my family arrived in this country in chains as a result of the one they came from not having a welfare system but if we're going to have it, we have to make sure it is sustainable.

Then you're either plastered, or you collect welfare and are trying to justify sponging off the tax payer.

The dole should be raised.. People who cannot work definitly need a centerlink raise. I.e older people, disability and single mums etc.

Young, lazy, the-world-owes-me-a-living type people should get no free money. If they think it's smart not to earn their living they should try living in the dirt like many people have to.
