imho the earlier proofs were better made and finished The 2001 proof snake is stunning whereas the 2013 proof snake just looks like a bullion variation.
Just a note on those mintage figures. 2008 Mouse - 365 to 1,365 2009 Ox - 340 to 1,340 I just noticed on Perth's collector site that they have updated their web site re the 2008 and 2009 proof coins. A few weeks ago the 3 coin set said sold-out but now it says un-available. Unavailable is completely different to Sold-out. :| Mouse - Perth Mint Collector Site http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...ear-of-the-mouse-silver-proof-coin-issue.aspx Ox - Perth Mint Collector Site http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...-ox-silver-proof-coin-issue-silver-coins.aspx
not sure i can afford that much . but really my comment was directed at the mint they have more magic tricks than Houdini
A while ago there was a discussion on the Perth Mint Blog reagarding the re-availability of the Ox proof coins. IIRC the spokesperson from the mint clearly confirmed the difference between sold out and unavailable and that the old proof sets are sold out and won't be reminted.
If Perth were to obtain a wholesale order for the other 635 - 2008 mouse and 660 - 2009 Ox 3 coin set, I think Perth would probably fill such an order. Unless a limited mintage is sold out, Perth will re-strike up to the limited mintage. They won't with the series one but series two is open slather! H
WoW I'm lucky i only buy coins because I like them and don't really care if they go up or down ( I'm happy if they go down so I can buy more ) I'm looking at bars as the investment but I'm also happy if the price goes way down so I can buy more now ( yes bit selfish sorry) I want it to go up long term though. But this is disgusting, I still can't imagine what would happen if they reminted redbacks
Thanks Bullion Baron, Wow, I'm disgusted. So I go and buy HR Dragons, expecting the mintage to be just that 7500 made. Not knowning there is another 22500 that can be made any time with no expiry. So much for mintages, I won't be buying any more Perth Mint numismatics. Other then finishing off my Series II Lunar proof 1oz set. Slam
What is stopping them reminting series 1 Lunar series numismatics coins? Is there anything in legislation that stops Perth Mint? Apart from " No, we manage availability of the coins responsibly with collector interests in mind. "
Wow, can't believe that the Perth Mint is so intent on destroying their good name in numismatic coins! And for what? A few extra dollars now, but in the future they will have real trouble - I won't be buying any more of their proof/numi coins and I am sure many others will seriously reconsider where they put their hard earned dollars. Why not let the buying public know what the TOTAL mintage could/will be so we can make an informed decision, mintage plays a large part in my decisions in regard to proofs etc as I hope to make a profit at some stage in the future - this decision by PM to retrospectively alter the mintage has and will cost me money/profit/premium! And that means, it will cost the PM through lost sales from me! What about the collectors who in good faith have high premium lunar proofs, as far as we know they could produce another 20,000 silver tiger 3 coin sets - we don't know what secret limit they have with the Treasury. So much for looking after their customers. NOT HAPPY JAN /rant
Man I'm so sick of big business these days! So greedy. What are they going to do once they have all the money and no one left to buy their product? All consumers will end up broke because wages are a liability that need to be minimized. Small businesses will flop aswell and big businesses will have nothing to spend their money on anyways. ( this is a total illogical b.s. rant but business today makes no sense to me )
Hello uuuuuuuumm I don't think Perth have the capability to restrike series 1. Word has it, that the series one dies were destroyed at the end of the series. Having said that, I have no written formal information from The Perth Mint. :|
We are often reminded that the Perth Mint frequent this forum. ARE YOU GETTING THIS PERTH MINT? HELLO?
Perhaps, only the Mouse and Ox 3 coin sets would be reminted in that packaging so I'd say the Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon and Snake are safe because they reached their mintage limit of 1,000 sets. :| The 2oz lunar silver proof (1,000 x Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon and Snake) have been re-minted (Nov release) so there's absolutely no reason why Perth wouldn't re-mint any of the other proof coins. Having said that, as we have seen, Perth will re-mint any of the coins in the series 2 set, so the 1/2 and 1oz could be in danger. I think a real danger of being re-minted is the 1/2oz silver proof! This year we saw 8,000 - 1/2oz series II silver proof Snakes Last year we saw 4,000 - 1/2oz series II silver proof Dragons coins go on sale in Europe those coins were a special order. If a wholesaler in Europe, USA, China or else-where, commissioned Perth to mint a set of coins they would. Lets hope Perth can understand our concerns. As a last resort, I'm sure that if Perth wanted to re-strike a popular coin they could easily date the coin as being re-struck in that particular year. Perth did it with the P20 Kookaburra set which had all 20 kookaburra designs that were all dated 2009 and all with a P20 mint mark. Perth have the resources to do this, so that collectors have originality and Perth has profit and can also maintain their integrity.
yep at the end of the day its always about the $ for us and them and they have the minting press . like i said before they have been on the ph several times with the ben bernank  hope series 1 is safe they couldn't wait to finish it so they could go hell for leather on series 2 with near on no restrictions. if they did pull a low act as re mint series 1 bullion or proofs for that matter they would pi$$ a lot of people right off time will tell but fingers crossed
