Mystery solved. According to Downies only 100 sets are being sold in Australia, 50 of them at Downies and 900 in Europe. That means at most 50 were sold through the mint.
Any confirmation from Perth Mint if the total 2000 coins ( total maximum of 2oz lunar silverproof) is the absolute maximum mintage or just the maximum of 1000 in the packaging of 12 coin collection? Can we get allowable mintage on this 2oz lunar silver proof? Will this set go up in value?
I talked to some guys at Silber CORNER, the set is orderable from all over the world the shipping costs are 30 Euro and the payment is possible via Credit Card. I ordered one set there the Set costs 701 Euro + shipping and creditcard costs. You have to crearte an account with your country to see the prices without German VAT. Here you find the Lunar II 12 Year Collection: http://www.silber-corner.de/de/Lunar-II-12-Year-Collection-2-Oz-Proof-Set-6-x-2-Oz-Proof
OK so what does this on the Perth Mint web site mean exactly: That they guarantee that the other 6 coins will be available exclusively to the buyers of these sets so they can complete their set by 2019 ? Or that they only guarantee they will manufacture the rest of the coins in the following 6 years ??
Yesterday, Perth had 96 sets available. Silber-Corner-de had 117 sets available. Perth normally have, an allocation of 10% of any wholesale clients order for sale in Australia. The mintage or should I say "The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 collections. " Silber-Corner-de has been finding sales much slower than expected. http://www.silber-corner.de/de/Luna...Proof?x5610b=98fec05f724aa358d8d4294673e1f944 Looks like Perth have had another allocation. http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalogue/australian-lunar-series-ii-2oz-silver-proof-collection.aspx Downies also had them for sale a few days ago. I thought these coin collections would have sold better but the fact is, many stackers and collectors now realise that Perth's mintage policy allows for restriking past coins. The 2oz Proof Dragons "were" unique and only available in the 3 coin set. I'm very disappointed in the Perth Mint Distributor who initiated the wholesale order of the 12 coin 2oz proof set and I'm very disappointed in Perth for actually going ahead with the manufacturing. Perth's wording on those sets, says only 1,000 collections; there's nothing to stop Perth spitting out a lot more Proof 2oz coins and infact, I'm not going to purchase any silver proof coins because I wouldn't be surprised if Perth released a 1/2oz and 1oz lunar proof sets of all coins released so far. H
Yeah I would say given the Perth Mints past policy they could still issue any of these proofs in separate packaging like "5000 2 oz proofs" individually packaged, this is a big problem for collectors. As with the 9 coin colored dragon set which was supposed to be limited to 20000 sets and at the time I remember they stated " we have no plans" to issue these in other packaging which they then did as a 10 coin set including the 1 oz bullion coin which also must have increased the mintage on those , then they released all the colored dragon show specials and the mint to order colored dragons basically decreasing the value on any of these, the whole perth mint business model of what they consider mintage's would be a terribly amusing joke if it were not for real people losing real money by their deception!
Silber-corner is probably still sitting on hundreds of these sets and now gave 100 more of them back to the mint to sell. These sets should have been selling like hot cakes. That they don't is a clear indication that the Perth Mint with their short term perspective has killed off the lunar mania. Thank you very much Perth Mint
That's exactly right. If you look at Perth's collector Blog, Perth have another slice of Silber-corner.de allocation. Perth say this on their Blog. "The additional Australian Lunar Series II 2oz Silver Proof Coin Collections available on our website came from Silber Corner's original allocation. " http://blog.perthmint.com.au/2012/11/22/perth-mint-declares/#comments Also mixed results on the secondary market. Some of the individual coins have been getting good prices but the sets aren't doing so well: This 2 oz proof set set on ebay sold for USD$669 + USD$14.99 P&H 271104820260 Other coin sales can be seen here: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Coins-/1...Complete=1&_nkw=2+oz+proof+lunar&LH_PrefLoc=2
I think that is only because the seller had zero feedback. I wouldn't have bought a 10kg mouse for more than that from an overseas seller with zero feedback...
Hi i am a new collector in the lunar series i have paid 3 different suppliers in germany over $1,000.00 for these coins thinking they are rare.. are or is, what you saying the perth mint will sell the ramianing sets
They are sold out at the Perth Mint, they will not sell any more of them. They are definitely rarer than most other lunar coins.
Great news I wish PM will match COA number of 2014 Year of the Horse with that we received in our set.
