I think I'm going to take the dive! :-)

Bought the last 2, but want to be sure it is the real deal, so ain't paying till I get confirmation that these things or this series ain't fake. He's seems to have had problems with 'plastic coins' in the past...based on his reviews. Thanks.

as one of the dealers in china wrote me: this is not official medal from Shanghai mint even though it has its COA and box

All I needed to know, canceling order! Thanks world!

Here is more info I got. I canceled my order. Whew!

Hi Bob

This one is not familiar to me as an official mint product. It also does not match typical Shanghai mint products in several ways.

The medal does not have Ag .999 or any other metal contact markings. All other pandas have the metal content and weight on them.

The coa lists the url www.shmint.jp.com which is a) a Japanese domain and b) a dead website.

It does not resemble other China mint products in its style.

It looks suspicious to me. I will check around with a few other people to see if anyone knows about this.

Actually it's http://www.shmintjp.com (no dot between shmint and jp) and yes, it does go to Shanghai Mint website

However, there's no mention of abovementioned coin on the website. Fishy? I dunno. Maybe it's simply not listed nor official. I mean, the 2013 "Shanghai Memory" Jewish Ghetto Panda coin is not listed there either.

Needs more info to be sure

Edit : here's another ebay listing with more pictures of the coin http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-China-...2281152?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item23302f9940

Edit 2 :

Here's some more information about the 2013 Shanghai Mint 1st China Panda Coin Collection Expo that it's supposedly linked to

Looks like the expo is real, and a section is dedicated to Panda Coins (?)....hmmm :|

Anymore info anyone?

Hi barsenault,

It's a real Panda medal, but because it lacks the Temple of Heaven on the back, it probably won't be classified as a 'true' Panda coin by some Panda purist collectors.

Nevertheless, it is a real Panda medal, and if it has been minted by the Shanghai Mint, it should be grade-able too.

I'm still securing more details, but if my hunch is correct, Mr. Wang Yirong (Chamber of Rarities in China) might be one of the people behind this.

The expo should be taking place Nov.15 to 17, 2013 - in which case 1000mintage is incredibly small considering how many people usually attend these events.

Here are some previous examples of Panda medals, which in my opinion look amazing, since their reliefs are often much deeper.

Hi yennus,

Just wondering on how much these medals are supposed to cost? And how are their resale values? Thanks for your advice!

Hi Altima, I think is selling these for around $90AUD... Ebay is around $137 (I think).

I'm currently not sure what their cost is, but hopefully if I can find out from the source (YunZhou), I might be able to do a group buy for those who are interested.

I think this Panda medal should be a winner.

Wow that would be much appreciated. Would be interested in a group buy if the price is right. ;)

More info from China.

Thanks much for your vote of confidence. :-). Hence why I put your name in the subject line. We obviously respect your judgment on these and panda coins. I'll buy 2 if and when you place the order. Thanks much sir. Bob A.

Hmmmz... just heard back from YunZhou... it's not one of their medals... they are up to their Sixth Shanghai Coin and Stamp Expo.

I wonder who the "First China Gold and Silver Coin Collection Expo" is in reference to?

Uh, oh, did we just get bamboozled? I changed my mind in buying them, until I get your vote of confidence Yennus.
