The series started in 1988 and finished in 2005. Only the 1/2 oz proof koalas were made in every year. They were housed in a wooden box with a metalic certificate. The paper covering of the wooden box was silver colored..
I started colecting these 1/2 platinum proof coins, and have the first 3 years, and a few more, but from the 18 pieces series missing least a dozen. If anyone has these later sets with boxes and the metal certificate (see the example), and want to sell them I might be interested to buy them if the price is reasonable. Just let me know what you have and the price.88 3 1.2 OZ platinum.jpg

If anyone else has any of these proof 1/2 ounce koala platinum coins for sale, PM me because there are still quite a few missing from the entire series.

I started colecting these 1/2 platinum proof koala coins from start 1988 to finish 2005.
Apart from the very first issue 1988 (12,000) not many coins were sold when the series were finally stopped in 2005.
So the total series has 18 coins with all the 1/2 oz proof platinum coins.
Even I still missing 8 coins to complete this series.
Since the mintage were so low probably nobody has a complete collection of these coins.
I was just wondering, even if no one wants to sell their coins, if the members of this forum combined even have the entire collection.
The missing 8 years to complete the collection are; 1993, 1997, 1998 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004.

Thanks, but I already have the 1994.All I need is 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 2002, and the 2004

Nobles offers the whole 1/2oz set in it's November auction. Lot 969. But probably too much for you as you would double up on half of them.

Finally I got all the 18 the coins.
I didn't think that anyone had the complete series,
since after the first 3 years, they never sold more than 350.
In five years, however, not even a hundred were sold.
This may have been the reason why it was discontinued in 2005
their production.
Here are the real sales figures.
I guess I'm the only one who has them all (the 18).
1988 12000
1989 2992
1990 1029
1991 341

This was the best platinum purchase I ever made.
Even though it seemed like a lot of money at the time, especially when you add that even at the bid price, there was also a +22% sales tax, so the 18 half-ounce coin, which was worth 9 ounces of platinum at the time of the auction, which was very high, would not have been worth $13,500, but I had to pay $18,948 with all expenses, which seemed like a very high premium. However, this was not even two years ago and now the metal value of 9 ounces of platinum, which was not worth $13,500 at the time, is $21,797.58 today, according to the values calculated on the Kitco website, which is more than a 61% increase since mid-November 2023.
